Scotsman Ice Machine Code C: Clean Cycle
C on a Scotsman Prodigy Elite modular cuber means the machine is running a de-scale or sanitize cycle. It is a status code, not an error, and the machine is expected to finish it and return to making ice.
Low: a normal operating status; the machine is expected to return to ice making after the cycle.

What does Scotsman error code C mean?
C is a status code in the Code Display legend of the Scotsman Prodigy Elite service manual. When someone starts a cleaning cycle, or the machine moves into one, the controller shows C so that anyone at the machine can see why ice is not being made. During a clean cycle the machine circulates cleaning solution instead of making ice, and it needs to complete the steps before going back to normal. The legend gives the label, Clean Cycle, and nothing more: it lists no causes and no steps. The manual does point out that the machine's front panel carries further codes, and that the last 10 error codes can be recalled by holding Off for three seconds and then pressing Harvest. Whether the cycle was started on purpose is therefore the first thing to learn. If nobody started it, ask a technician to read the recalled codes.

What you may notice
- C shown on the display
- No ice being made while the cycle runs
- Water and cleaner circulating in the machine
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code C on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A de-scale or sanitize cycle was started and is running
- Cleaning cycle started by the operator or a scheduled routine
- Cycle repeated because a step was interrupted
- Cleaning cycle called for after an earlier alert
Safe checks before calling for service
- Ask whether someone started a clean cycle on purpose.
- Let the cycle run; do not open the machine or interrupt the water.
- Keep the bin free of ice you plan to serve if cleaner is circulating.
- If C stays for much longer than a cycle should, note how long.
- To recall recent codes, hold Off for 3 seconds then press Harvest, as the manual describes, and write down what you see.
How a technician diagnoses error code C
- Read the display and recall the last 10 codes.
- Confirm which clean cycle is running and at what step.
- Check water supply and drain so the cycle can complete.
- Check that cleaner was added at the right step.
- Look for a repeating pattern in the recalled codes.
- Cleaner solutions need correct handling and rinse-out so no cleaner reaches the ice.
- Stuck cycles may involve water valve and pump control at line voltage.
- Code history interpretation needs the service manual.
How error code C differs from similar codes
C is a normal status, like P and T on the same legend. It is not one of the machine's error codes.
