Rational Combi Oven Error Code Service 41: Solenoid Y3 or Moistening
Service 41 on a Rational SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency means solenoid Y3 is defective, the moistening valve is blocked, or the CDS sensor is not pulsing. Steam and cleaning programs may stop early while dry heat usually keeps working. Confirm the water supply valve is fully open and call us if it returns.
Medium: steam and cleaning programs may stop, but dry-heat cooking can continue.

What does Rational error code Service 41 mean?
Solenoid Y3 controls the water that feeds the moistening system. The control opens it for steam or cleaning phases and uses the CDS sensor to count pulses of water passing through. If Y3 does not open, the moistening valve or nozzle is plugged, or the CDS sensor does not register pulses, the control concludes it cannot add moisture and shows Service 41. Programs that depend on added moisture, and the cleaning cycle, may stop early. Dry-heat roasting and baking usually still run, and the message comes back at the next start because the same test repeats. The manual points to four areas: how Y3 operates, scale in the moistening valve and nozzle, the CDS pulses, and the water supply with its inlet screen. In a hard water area, scale is a common reason a small valve or nozzle narrows over the years, so the water path is where a technician begins.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Rational SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency (SCC_WE) family. Other Rational lines use their own message numbers and valve names.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Service 41 displayed during a steam or cleaning program
- Cleaning cycle ends early
- Steam output seems weak before the message
- Dry-heat modes keep working
Possible causes
Listed in Rational's documentation
- Solenoid Y3 does not open
- Moistening valve or nozzle is blocked by scale
- CDS sensor is not pulsing
- Water supply is restricted or the inlet screen is plugged
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Service 41 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A water shutoff valve nudged partly closed during kitchen cleaning
- Hard water scale narrowing the moistening nozzle after months without descaling
Safe checks before calling for service
- Let the cabinet cool before looking inside.
- Check that the water supply valve to the oven is fully open.
- Look at the inlet screen only if you can reach it without tools.
- Switch the oven off and on once and try a short steam program.
- If Service 41 appears again, call us. The side panels stay on, because hot water and live wiring are behind them.
How a technician diagnoses error code Service 41
- Read the message history and see which program was running when Service 41 appeared.
- Confirm inlet pressure and clean the inlet screen.
- Test whether Y3 receives its signal and actually opens.
- Descale or clear the moistening valve and nozzle, and check the CDS pulse count during a test run.
- Replace the solenoid or sensor only after the test points to it.
- Y3 and its wiring are live behind the side panels, and water lines run beside them.
- Reading the CDS pulses and valve response needs the oven running with panels open, which is technician work.
How error code Service 41 differs from similar codes
Service 42 involves the Care valve Y4 and its container line, while Service 41 involves moistening valve Y3 and the water used for steam.

Is Service 41 a water problem?
Yes, it concerns the water used for moisture. A plugged nozzle, a weak valve or low pressure can cause it, and a technician tests each in turn.
Will dry cooking still work?
Usually. Roasting and baking without added moisture are generally still possible while the water path waits for repair.
Can scale cause this?
Yes. Mineral scale collects in valves and nozzles over time, and that is common where water is hard.
