Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E22.1-E22.4: Core Sensor Open
E22.1, E22.2, E22.3 and E22.4 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens mean the core temperature sensor (CTS) has an open circuit. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. Time-based cooking is still possible.
Low: only core-probe cooking is lost.

What does Convotherm error code E22.1 / E22.2 / E22.3 / E22.4 mean?
The core temperature sensor is the probe you push into food, and the control reads it as a resistance in a small circuit. An open circuit means that circuit is broken. The probe cable may have a wire that has come apart where it bends, the plug may not be fully in its socket, or the probe tip may have failed. The control sees no signal and shows one of E22.1 to E22.4. The number after the dot names the measuring point on the probe, but the manual gives all four codes the same meaning and the same response. A broken probe does not affect cooking by time and temperature, so the oven can still be used that way. Core-probe programs cannot run until a technician checks the probe, cable and socket.
Affected models and control systems
Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB, the combi ovens that preceded the C4. The code comes from the line's translated user manual, and no edition number is shown in it.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E22.1, E22.2, E22.3 or E22.4 on the display
- Core-probe program will not start
- Core temperature not displayed
- Kinked or bent probe cable
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E22.1 / E22.2 / E22.3 / E22.4 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Probe cable broken where it bends near the plug
- Plug not fully inserted in the chamber socket
- Probe tip failed open
- Socket contacts corroded
Safe checks before calling for service
- Remove the probe and look at the cable for kinks or damage.
- Push the plug fully into the socket.
- Restart and try a core-probe program.
- If the code stays, use time-based programs and contact customer service.
- Note which of the four codes appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code E22.1 / E22.2 / E22.3 / E22.4
- Read the code and history.
- Measure the probe resistance across its measuring points.
- Check cable continuity along its length.
- Inspect the socket contacts in the chamber wall.
- Check the probe input at the board.
- Replace the probe first, then the socket wiring if the new probe also fails.
- The socket sits in the chamber wall, and testing its wiring requires panel removal.
- A replacement probe has to match the sensor type the oven expects.
- The board input is checked at the control, close to line-voltage parts.
How error code E22.1 / E22.2 / E22.3 / E22.4 differs from similar codes
E12.x reports the same probe reading too high, while E22.x reports no connection.

Can I still cook without the probe?
Yes. Use time-and-temperature cooking while the probe circuit is open.
Does the code mean the oven cannot heat?
No. It points to the probe circuit, not to the heating.
What do the four numbers mean?
The manual gives them the same meaning and the same response, so treat them as one problem.
