Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E11.0: Oven Sensor Reads Too High

E11.0 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the oven sensor is reading too high a temperature. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. Switch the oven off and let it cool first.

Medium · inspection needed

High: heating stops, and a real overheat is possible.

What does Convotherm error code E11.0 mean?

The oven sensor tells the control the temperature of the cooking chamber, and the control uses it to switch heating on and off. If the sensor reports a temperature above the limit, the control stops heating and shows E11.0, because it has to assume the chamber is overheating. The reading can be right or wrong. The heating may not have switched off, or the sensor may be damaged, or its wiring may be giving a false value. The control cannot tell which. The manual gives no operator step other than contacting customer service, which fits: nothing on this code can be corrected from the front panel. What you can do is turn the oven off, let it cool, and note what was running so the technician has the details.

Affected models and control systems

Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB combi ovens (the older, pre-C4 line), from that line's user manual, an English translation of the original edition. It does not state a revision number.

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E11.0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Heating element or burner staying on when it should switch off
  • Oven sensor damaged or drifting
  • Sensor wiring shorted or pinched
  • Heating relay that sticks closed

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the oven off and let it cool.
  2. Do not open the door while the chamber is very hot.
  3. Restart once the oven has cooled and see whether E11.0 returns.
  4. Contact customer service, as the manual instructs.
  5. Note the set temperature and cooking mode when E11.0 appeared.

How a technician diagnoses error code E11.0

  1. Read E11.0 and the history.
  2. Compare the sensor reading with a separate probe in the chamber.
  3. Check the sensor resistance against its temperature.
  4. Inspect the sensor wiring and connectors.
  5. Check that the heating relay or gas valve switches off.
  6. Replace the sensor only after the comparison.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The sensor and heating relays are tested with the oven hot and live.
  • A false high reading and a real overheat look the same, so only measurements separate them.
  • On gas ovens, a valve that stays open is a gas safety matter.

How error code E11.0 differs from similar codes

E12.x is the core probe, E13.0 the steam generator sensor and E14.0 the bypass sensor.
