Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E26.0: Thermal Cutout Open

E26.0 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the thermal cutout (B8) has an open circuit. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. The oven will not heat until a technician has checked the safety circuit.

Medium · inspection needed

High: a safety circuit is open and the oven will not heat until it is checked.

What does Convotherm error code E26.0 mean?

The thermal cutout is a safety device. It opens its circuit if the oven gets dangerously hot, and the control reads that circuit to know whether heating is allowed. B8 is the cutout named in the manual. When the control sees an open circuit on B8, it cannot tell the difference between a cutout that has tripped, a wire that has come apart and a plug that has come loose. In every case the safe answer is the same: do not heat. The control shows E26.0 and holds heating off. That is why this code matters more than most sensor codes in this family. The manual's response is to contact customer service, and an operator should not bridge or reset a safety device. The oven stays off until the reason the circuit is open has been found.

Affected models and control systems

The OES, OEB, OGS and OGB combi ovens (pre-C4). We used the translated English user manual for the line, which carries no revision or part number in the text we read.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E26.0 on the display
  • Oven will not heat
  • Message appears at start-up
  • Fans may run but the oven stays cold

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E26.0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Cutout tripped after the oven overheated
  • Wire to the cutout broken or burned
  • Cutout plug loose at the connector
  • Cutout failed open

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the oven off and let it cool completely.
  2. Do not try to bypass or reset the cutout; it is a safety device.
  3. Make sure the air intake and fluff filter are not blocked, because heat buildup can trip a cutout.
  4. Contact customer service as the manual instructs.
  5. Note whether the oven had been running hot or heavily loaded before it stopped.

How a technician diagnoses error code E26.0

  1. Read E26.0 and the history, and look for earlier overheating codes.
  2. Check the cutout B8 with a meter for continuity at room temperature.
  3. Check continuity of the wiring and plug between B8 and the board.
  4. Look for the reason the oven overheated if the cutout tripped, such as a stuck heating relay or a blocked fan.
  5. Replace the cutout or cable only after the cause of the open circuit is known.
  6. Run a heat-up test and watch the chamber temperature.
! Leave this to a technician
  • A thermal cutout protects against fire, so it must be tested and replaced correctly and never bridged.
  • Finding out why the oven overheated means measuring heating relays and fans at line voltage.
  • On gas models the cause could lie in the burner control, which is gas-side work.

How error code E26.0 differs from similar codes

E26.1 is the same cutout with a ground fault, and E27.0 reports the cutout reading too high.

Can I jump the cutout to keep working?

No. It protects the oven and the kitchen from overheating, and it has to be tested by a technician.
