Henny Penny Fryer Error Code E-13A / E-13B: Pressure Assist Sensor

E-13A and E-13B on a Henny Penny Velocity pressure fryer mean the control cannot find the Pressure Assist sensor. Often the fryer has no Pressure Assist and the control is set as if it did. Find out whether your fryer came with Pressure Assist before changing anything, and call us if you are unsure.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: on a fryer without the option this is a setting mismatch and the fryer can usually keep operating.

What does Henny Penny error code E-13A / E-13B mean?

The control can be set up for a fryer with or without the Pressure Assist option. If the setting says the option is present, the control looks for its sensor, and when it finds none it displays E-13A or E-13B. On a fryer that was never built with Pressure Assist, this simply means the setting and the equipment disagree, and the code will keep appearing until they match. The code does not usually mean anything is unsafe. The owner's manual lists a Tech mode setting, T-2A Pressure Assist, that should be OFF on a fryer without the option. On a fryer that does have Pressure Assist, the same display means the control really is not getting the sensor signal, so the sensor, its wiring or the control input is involved. The first step is therefore a question about the equipment, not a repair: does this fryer have Pressure Assist at all? The display text is E-13A / E-13B.

Affected models and control systems

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Find out whether your fryer came with Pressure Assist, using the model label or order paperwork.
  2. If it did not, the owner's manual lists a Tech mode setting, T-2A Pressure Assist, that should be OFF.
  3. If you are not sure how to reach Tech mode, call us instead of guessing.
  4. If your fryer does have Pressure Assist, stop and call us.
  5. Tell us the exact model and whether E-13A or E-13B appeared.

How a technician diagnoses error code E-13A / E-13B

  1. Read the model and serial and confirm whether Pressure Assist was fitted.
  2. Enter Tech mode and compare the T-2A setting with the equipment.
  3. Set T-2A correctly on a fryer without the option and confirm the code clears.
  4. On fryers with the option, inspect the sensor and its connector.
  5. Check wiring continuity and the sensor signal with a meter.
  6. Evaluate the control board input only after the sensor and wiring pass.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Tech mode changes the fryer's own settings, and a wrong entry can change cooking behavior across the whole control.
  • On fryers with Pressure Assist, a missing signal needs a meter test of sensor wiring near the vat.
  • We check the option list first so nothing is replaced on a fryer that never had the part.
