Henny Penny OFG-391 Fryer Error Code E-6A: Probe Open
E-6A means the temperature probe is open. Turn the switch off, then on. If E-6 still shows, have the temperature probe checked.

What does Henny Penny error code E-6A mean?
A fryer controller reads the oil temperature through a probe, a sensor whose resistance changes with heat. If the circuit is open, the controller reads a value no oil could produce and cannot tell how hot the oil is. On the Henny Penny OFG-391 open gas fryer the controller then shows E-6A, a temperature probe open alarm. Without a temperature reading, the controller cannot safely control the burner. The manual's action is short: turn the switch off, then on, and if E-6 still shows, have the temperature probe checked. A single off and on clears a one-time upset from noise or a brief power dip. If E-6A returns, the probe or its wiring is open. The A in the code separates the open condition from the shorted one, which the manual lists as E-6B. Fry cooks usually see the fryer stop heating, with the oil slowly cooling in the vat. Because the cause may be a loose connector as easily as a failed probe, a technician measures before replacing anything.

How a technician diagnoses error code E-6A
- Read the code and confirm E-6A, not E-6B.
- Turn the switch off and on.
- Check the probe connection.
- Measure probe resistance against the manual's values.
- Replace the probe if it is open.
- The probe sits in hot oil, so work on it needs a cooled fryer and proper handling.
- Wiring checks involve gas-fryer controls and line voltage.
- Testing needs the correct resistance values.
How error code E-6A differs from similar codes
E-6A is the open probe alarm; E-6B is the shorted probe alarm.
