Henny Penny Fryer Computer Codes E 5, PROB and E 41
This page covers three messages on the FM07-020-F computer. E 5 means the pot temperature is too high, PROB means the temperature probe has failed, and E 41 means the control must be initialized and reprogrammed. The buzzer sounds until a cycle switch is pressed.
High: the fryer is inoperative until the error is corrected, and E 5 is an over-temperature condition.

What does Henny Penny error code E 5 / PROB / E 41 mean?
The three messages are different conditions on the same FM07-020-F computer. E 5 is the software high limit: the pot temperature went above the limit the computer allows. PROB means the temperature probe has failed, so the computer has no usable oil temperature. E 41 is a control problem, and the control must be initialized and reprogrammed. The manual says the buzzer sounds until a cycle switch is pressed, and the fryer stays inoperative until the error is corrected. It gives a corrective step only for E 41, which is to initialize and reprogram the control. For E 5 and PROB, the page gives no step, so the cause has to be found by testing: the oil and heat control for E 5, and the probe and its wiring for PROB. Because the three need different responses, read exactly which message is on the display.
Affected models and control systems
Henny Penny fryers with the FM07-020-F computer. The manual we used is a text viewer copy. Each of the three messages describes a separate condition.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E 5 / PROB / E 41 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- E 5: pot temperature too high, software high limit
- PROB: temperature probe has failed
- E 41: control problem, initialize and reprogram needed
- Oil overheated by a heat control that does not switch off (E 5)
- Probe wire broken or probe connector loose (PROB)
- Lost or corrupted settings after a power event (E 41)
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press a cycle switch to silence the buzzer and read which message is showing.
- If it is E 5, turn the fryer off and let the oil cool.
- If it is PROB or E 41, leave the fryer off.
- Write down exactly which message appeared and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code E 5 / PROB / E 41
- Read exactly which message is shown.
- For E 5, check the oil temperature with a reference thermometer and the heat control.
- For PROB, check the probe and its wiring.
- For E 41, initialize and reprogram the control.
- Confirm the fryer runs a full cycle.
- Initializing and reprogramming the control needs the correct settings for the fryer.
- Probe and heat checks involve hot oil and line voltage.
- Three different messages need three different responses.
How error code E 5 / PROB / E 41 differs from similar codes
E 5 is the software high limit, PROB is a probe failure, and E 41 needs reprogramming; they are not interchangeable.
