TurboChef High-Speed Oven Error Code F5: Magnetron Over Temperature
F5 on a TurboChef i3, i5 or C3 oven means the magnetron snap-disk thermostat has overheated and tripped, and the cook cycle ends. Remove anything blocking cool air into the oven, check the rear cooling fans and clean the exhaust guards. Call Customer Support if F5 returns.
High: the magnetron overheated and the cook cycle ends.

What does TurboChef F5: Magnetron Over Temperature mean?
The magnetron makes heat of its own and needs a steady stream of cool air. A snap-disk thermostat on it opens if it gets too hot, and the control reads that and ends the cook cycle with F5 (MAG OVER TMP or F5 MAG TEMP on the C3). The manual gives two causes, both about air: a blockage of cool air into the oven, or clogged exhaust guards on the rear cooling fans. The operator steps follow from that. Clear anything that sits against the intake, check that the rear fans run, and clean the exhaust guards. Ovens that are pushed against a wall, stacked with stored boxes or run in a hot kitchen have the least margin. If F5 returns after the airflow is clear, the thermostat, the fans or the magnetron should be tested.
Affected models and control systems
TurboChef i3 and i5 ovens and the C3 series. On HhC conveyors F5 means CC Over Temp, a different condition, so this page does not apply to them.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- F5, MAG OVER TMP or F5 MAG TEMP on the display
- Cook cycle ends
- Rear fans loud or not running
- Hot air at the back of the oven
Possible causes
Listed in TurboChef's documentation
- Blockage of cool air into the oven
- Rear cooling fan exhaust guards clogged
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind F5: Magnetron Over Temperature on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Rear cooling fan slowing or stopped
- Magnetron running hotter as it ages
- Oven too close to a fryer or grill
- Snap-disk thermostat weakening and tripping early
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the oven off and let it cool.
- Remove anything blocking cool air into the oven, such as boxes or a wall too close.
- Check that the rear cooling fans run when the oven is switched on.
- Clean the exhaust guards on the rear cooling fans.
- If F5 returns, call Customer Support and note how long the oven had been cooking.
How a technician diagnoses F5: Magnetron Over Temperature
- Read F5 and the history.
- Check airflow into the oven and the condition of the exhaust guards.
- Confirm that the rear cooling fans run at the right speed.
- Test the snap-disk thermostat for continuity at room temperature.
- Check the magnetron and its cooling path.
- Replace the failed fan, thermostat or magnetron.
- The magnetron and its high-voltage circuit are lethal even when the oven is off.
- Fan and thermostat tests are made with the oven open and powered.
- A magnetron that overheated may be failing, which needs testing before the oven returns to service.
How F5: Magnetron Over Temperature differs from similar codes
HhC conveyors use F5 for CC Over Temp, a different meaning, so do not apply this page to them.

Is F5 about the oven chamber heat?
No. It concerns the magnetron, which has its own thermostat.
Will it clear when the oven cools?
The thermostat may reset after cooling, but the cause, usually blocked air, remains.
Which models does F5 apply to here?
The i3, i5 and C3 series. HhC conveyors use F5 for something else.
