TurboChef High-Speed Oven Error Code F6: Electrical Compartment Hot

F6 on a TurboChef oven means the electrical compartment is too hot. It does not end the cook cycle but warns of an air circulation problem. Remove anything blocking cool air into the oven or compartment, clean the rear fans and guards, and call Customer Support if it persists.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: a warning that does not end the cook cycle, but ignored heat shortens electronics life.

What does TurboChef error code F6: EC Temp mean?

The control electronics sit in a compartment that is cooled by air from the rear fans. A temperature sensor there lets the control warn when the compartment is getting too hot, which shows as F6 (EC TEMP HIGH, ELEC OVR TMP or F6 EC TEMP on the C3, and EC Over Temp on the HhC). The C3 service manual gives 140 F (60 C) as the trip point. Unlike most codes in this family, F6 does not end a cook cycle: it is an early warning that air circulation is poor. The manual lists blocked cool-air intake, clogged rear fan exhaust guards and, for the High h Batch 2, an ambient above 120 F (49 C). A hot kitchen, where an oven sits near fryers and grills, can bring the warning on in summer. Cleaning the guards and clearing the airflow is usually the whole job.

Affected models and control systems

TurboChef i3 and i5 ovens, High h Batch 2, the C3 series and the HhC conveyors.

What you may notice

  • F6, EC TEMP HIGH or EC Over Temp on the display
  • Oven still cooking
  • Rear fans running hard
  • Hot air from the rear of the oven

Possible causes

Listed in TurboChef's documentation

  • Blockage of cool air into the oven or electrical compartment
  • Rear cooling fan exhaust guards clogged
  • Ambient above 120 F (49 C), High h Batch 2

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code F6: EC Temp on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Dust and grease clogging the compartment intake
  • Rear fan bearing slowing the airflow
  • Oven installed in a tight enclosure
  • Long run of back-to-back cycles in a hot kitchen

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Remove anything blocking cool air into the oven or the electrical compartment.
  2. Clean the rear fans and the exhaust guards.
  3. Check the room temperature near the oven; the High h Batch 2 manual asks for under 120 F (49 C).
  4. Let the oven cool between heavy runs if the room is hot.
  5. If F6 persists, call Customer Support and note the room temperature.

How a technician diagnoses error code F6: EC Temp

  1. Read F6 and the history to see how often the warning appears.
  2. Check the airflow into the compartment and the condition of the guards.
  3. Confirm the rear fans run at the right speed.
  4. Compare the compartment temperature with a thermometer.
  5. Check the sensor and its wiring.
  6. Replace the failed fan or sensor.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The compartment holds boards and relays at line voltage.
  • Checking the sensor and fans needs the oven open and powered.
  • Heat damage on boards can be missed without a close inspection.

How error code F6: EC Temp differs from similar codes

F6 is a warning and does not end a cook cycle, unlike F5, which ends it when the magnetron overheats.
