Merrychef High-Speed Oven Error Code E096: Door Close Test
E096 is a recommission test failure for closing the door: no user action was registered within 10 seconds, and the door switch circuit stayed open. The manual says to check the door switches and their connections.
Medium: the oven cannot confirm a closed door, which can block microwave operation.

What does Merrychef error code E096 mean?
The recommission routine asks the person at the oven to close the door and then watches the door switch circuit. A closed door should complete the circuit. If 10 seconds pass and the circuit is still open, the oven records E096: Recommission Fail Door Close. The door switches are safety interlocks for the microwave section, so the oven will not generate microwave power unless it sees a closed door. A door that does not register as closed is therefore more than a nuisance. It may be that the door was never actually shut during the test, that it is out of alignment, or that a switch or connection has failed. The manual lists no causes and says only to check the door switches and connections. The opposite situation, a circuit that stays closed when the door is open, is E097.
Affected models and control systems
Merrychef eikon e2s with the QTS touch screen and SRB relay board controller. Confirmed in the e2s service manual's recommission list.

What you may notice
- E096 recommission fail on the door close step
- Oven behaves as if the door is open
- Microwave cooking will not start with the door shut
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E096 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Door not latching fully against the interlock switches
- Hinge or latch wear that leaves the door slightly out of line
- A door switch that no longer closes
- Fuse F2 open in the door switch circuit
Safe checks before calling for service
- Close the door firmly and check that the latch engages along its whole edge.
- Look for food debris or grease on the door seal and latch area and wipe it away with the oven cool.
- Repeat the door-close step within 10 seconds.
- Note whether the display ever shows Door open with the door shut.
How a technician diagnoses error code E096
- Read the recommission result and confirm it was the door close step.
- Inspect the door alignment, hinges and latch.
- Check fuse F2 in the door switch circuit.
- Test each door switch for continuity as the door is closed.
- Replace the failed switch or adjust the door, then rerun the test.
- The door switches are safety interlocks on the microwave circuit and must not be bypassed or adjusted casually.
- Switch adjustment and fuse testing happen inside the cabinet next to mains-voltage wiring.
How error code E096 differs from similar codes
E096 is the door close step; E097 is the matching door open step in which the circuit stays closed.

Why does E096 matter for safety?
The door switches keep the microwave off unless the door is closed. A fault in them has to be fixed, never worked around.
Is E096 the same as the Door open message?
No. E096 comes from the recommission test. The Door open message is shown in normal use while the switches read the door as open.
Could the door just need adjusting?
Yes. A door slightly out of line can leave the switches open, and the manual includes switch adjustment and hinges in its door checks.
