Merrychef High-Speed Oven Error Code E086: Soft Power On
E086 on a Merrychef eikon e2s is an information event, not a failure. It records that the SRB received the on/off switch signal, or that the oven rebooted during a firmware update. If it matches normal use, no action is needed.
Low: an information event that does not stop the oven.

What does Merrychef E086: SOFT POWER ON mean?
When the oven is switched on, the SRB relay board receives a low-voltage (ELV) signal from the on/off switch and writes an entry. That is E086: SOFT POWER ON. The same entry is made if the oven reboots while firmware is being updated. The manual states clearly that it is not an error, and it is not the result of any radiant heater test, so it should not be read as a heater problem. The only time it deserves attention is when the log shows it many times in quick succession. That pattern suggests the signal from the on/off switch is flickering, or the connections carrying it are loose, so the board believes the oven is being switched on again and again. The manual then says to check the connections and the on/off switch. Used normally, one entry per switch-on is expected and needs nothing.

What you may notice
- E086 SOFT POWER ON entries in the event log
- One entry each time the oven is switched on
- Many entries within seconds if the switch signal is unstable
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind E086: SOFT POWER ON on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Oven switched on with the on/off switch
- Oven rebooted during a firmware update
- An on/off switch that makes poor contact and sends repeated signals
- A loose connector on the switch wiring to the SRB
Safe checks before calling for service
- If the oven starts and cooks normally, leave the entry alone.
- Switch the oven on with a single firm press and note whether the screen restarts by itself afterward.
- Note how often the entry appears and whether the oven reboots on its own.
- Give us those notes and the oven model for the service call.
How a technician diagnoses E086: SOFT POWER ON
- Read the event log and count the E086 entries and their time stamps.
- If there is one per switch-on or update, no action is needed.
- If many appear close together, inspect the on/off switch and its wiring to the SRB for looseness.
- Test the switch contact with a meter once the oven is isolated.
- Replace the switch or reseat the connections, then watch the log through several power cycles.
- The on/off switch circuit shares the cabinet with mains-voltage parts, so testing it is a technician task.
- Telling a switch problem from a board problem takes the event log and a meter reading.
How E086: SOFT POWER ON differs from similar codes
E086 is often mistaken for a heater test failure, but the e2s manual describes it only as a power-on event.

Is E086 a heater problem?
No. The manual defines it as an information event tied to the on/off switch signal or a reboot during a firmware update.
Do I need to fix E086?
Not if it appears once per switch-on. Only a burst of entries in quick succession calls for a check of the switch and its connections.
Why did the oven log E086 after a firmware update?
The oven reboots during the update, and the reboot is recorded the same way as a normal switch-on.
