Merrychef High-Speed Oven Error Code E116: Heater Failed

E116 means the oven asked for heat but the current in the heater circuit was under 1 A. The manual says to check the connections from the supply through the filter, fuse F1, the SRB and the heating element, and to replace the SRB last.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the heater is not carrying current, so the oven cannot heat as designed.

What does Merrychef E116: HEATER FAILED mean?

When a cook needs the heating element, the SRB switches it on and measures the current. If the draw is under 1 A, the circuit is not carrying power, and the oven records E116: HEATER FAILED (Heater off on request). The name can mislead. The manual's remedy is not to replace the element, because it rarely fails. Instead it works along the path of the power: from the supply through the filter, the fuse F1, the SRB, and out to the heating element. Loose connections are the usual find, and the manual adds a practical detail: when tightening the element's front nut, hold the rear bolt so the stud does not turn. The SRB is replaced last, only when every connection and the fuse are proven good. This page does not include any 100 C in 30 minutes test, because the manual gives no such test for this code.

Affected models and control systems

Merrychef eikon e2s with the QTS touch screen and SRB relay board controller. Confirmed in the e2s service manual; the opposite condition, heater on without request, is E102.

Possible causes

Listed in Merrychef's documentation

  • Loose connections (element rarely fails)

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind E116: HEATER FAILED on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Fuse F1 open on the heater supply
  • Mains filter connection loose or burned
  • Element terminal nut loosened by heat cycling
  • An SRB output that no longer switches the heater

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the breaker is on and the plug is firmly in the socket.
  2. Switch the oven off and on once and try a convection preheat.
  3. Note how long the oven takes to warm compared with normal.
  4. Keep the cabinet closed and give us the model and the code history.

How a technician diagnoses E116: HEATER FAILED

  1. Read the log for E116 and any E092 entries from recommission.
  2. Isolate the oven and check the supply, filter and fuse F1 for continuity.
  3. Inspect connections at the SRB and the heating element.
  4. Hold the rear bolt while tightening the front nut.
  5. Measure element resistance and replace the SRB only after all of that.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The heater circuit carries full mains current through a fuse and filter in the cabinet.
  • Tightening stud connections without twisting them needs the right tools and care.

How E116: HEATER FAILED differs from similar codes

E116 is too little current when heat is asked for, while E102 is current flowing when heat was not asked for.
