What does MEIKO error code 6 mean?
When a wash program is interrupted before it completes, the M-iClean U puts message 6 on its color display. The manual lists it as a notice for the US, UM, UM+ and UL types. The control is reporting that the dishes in the rack did not get the full wash and rinse, so they should not be treated as clean. Most often a person caused it, by opening the door mid-program or pressing stop. A rack with a dish or tray sticking out can bump the door and have the same effect. Door switches that read open for a moment can cancel a cycle too, and so can a dip in the power supply while it runs. The maker's operator step is to start the wash cycle again, and that usually clears the notice. The case to watch is when message 6 appears without anyone touching the machine. That points to a door switch, the supply, or the display and program memory, and it is the point at which to stop using the machine and call.
Affected models and control systems
This is for Meiko M-iClean U undercounter dishwashers, including the US, UM, UM+ and UL types. Other Meiko ranges number their messages differently.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Message 6 on the color display
- A cycle that ends partway through
- Dishes still dirty or wet in the rack
Possible causes
Listed in MEIKO's documentation
- Whether someone stopped the cycle or opened the door mid-program
- Door switches that read open for a moment during the cycle
- Power supply that dipped while the cycle was running
- Display or program memory if the notice appears with no one touching the machine
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 6 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A tall item in the top rack that presses on the door
- Door latch worn so the switch flickers when the door vibrates
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that nothing was done to stop the cycle, such as opening the door or pressing the stop key.
- Look at the rack and make sure no dish or tray sticks out and bumps the door.
- Start the wash cycle again, as the owner's manual says.
- If message 6 appears again without anyone touching the machine, stop and note how many times.
- Call us. Never hold a door switch closed to keep a cycle going.
How a technician diagnoses error code 6
- Read the message and recent cancel history.
- Check the door latch and the door switch operation.
- Test the door switch contacts with a meter.
- Check the supply voltage during a cycle.
- Review the display and program memory.
- Replace the switch or board only after the tests.
- Testing a door switch means meter work on live 208-240 V circuits.
- Bridging a door switch to keep a cycle going defeats a safety device and risks injury.
- Checking the program memory needs the machine's own service data.
How error code 6 differs from similar codes
Message 6 is a notice about one interrupted cycle, unlike the numbered warnings that report supply or temperature problems.
