Meiko Commercial Dishwasher Error Code 9: Door Switch Mismatch

What does MEIKO error code 9 mean?

Two switches watch the door of the M-iClean U, and the control accepts a closed door only when both agree. Message 9 shows a disagreement of a particular kind: the left switch reads 0, meaning open, while the right reads 1, meaning closed. It is the mirror image of message 8, and it points the search at the left side instead. The control cannot tell which switch is telling the truth, so it does not guess. It reports the split and asks for a technician, as the manual instructs. A door that closes crooked and reaches only one switch will do this, as will a loose mounting on the left switch, a worn actuator, or a bad connector or wire on either side. The dishes and the cycle are not the problem; the sensing is. The manual says limited-capacity work is possible while you wait. Do not tape, prop or hold any door switch, because the switches are what keep steam and spray from reaching staff.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Meiko M-iClean U undercounter dishwashers, from the red and gray messages in the operating instructions. Other Meiko ranges number door messages differently.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Message 9 on the display
  • Cycle that will not start or stops right away
  • A door that looks shut but the display disagrees

Possible causes

Listed in MEIKO's documentation

  • Left-side door switch and its mounting
  • Right-side door switch and its mounting
  • Connectors and wires to the switches
  • A door that closes crooked and reaches only one switch

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 9 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Left switch bracket loosened by door slamming
  • Moisture creeping into the left connector from steam

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Open and close the door firmly once and watch the display.
  2. Make sure the rack and dishes are clear of the door edge.
  3. Call a service technician, as the maker's message instructs.
  4. Work at limited capacity only if you must, and do not tape or hold any door switch.
  5. Tell us the display showed left 0, right 1.

How a technician diagnoses error code 9

  1. Read the message and confirm the left 0, right 1 split.
  2. Check door closing alignment and the left bracket.
  3. Test both switches with a meter through a door cycle.
  4. Inspect the left connector for moisture or corrosion.
  5. Compare left and right actuator travel.
  6. Replace the switch, actuator or connector only after the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Door switches carry live control voltage near 208-240 V, so testing them means panels off and a meter.
  • They are safety devices, and a defeated switch can let a cycle run with the door open.
  • The left side is only one of several suspects, and it takes measurement to separate them.

How error code 9 differs from similar codes

Message 8 is the same problem with right 0 and left 1; here the left side is the one reading open.
