Meiko Commercial Dishwasher Error Code 301: Rinse Aid Empty

Message 301 on a Meiko M-iClean U means the machine reports a lack of rinse aid. Refill or replace the rinse aid canister and make sure the suction line sits at the bottom. The machine still washes, but glassware will spot and dry poorly until it is fixed.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: an operator reminder; the machine keeps washing, with poorer drying.

What does MEIKO error code 301 mean?

The M-iClean U watches the rinse aid supply so the final rinse can be dosed correctly. When the canister runs empty, or the pick-up line stops drawing product, the control raises message 301 on the color display, which the manual lists as a lack of rinse aid. The message is a warning rather than a shutdown: the washing itself still takes place, so the machine does not lock out. What changes is the quality of the result. Rinse aid lowers the surface tension of the final rinse water so it sheets off glasses and plates and dries quickly. Without it, water beads, leaves spots and dishes come out wet. Staff usually notice spotted glassware before they notice the display. The maker's own step is simple: refill or replace the canister. If the message stays on after a full canister, the problem moves to the line that draws the product, the dosing pump or the level sensing that decides the canister is empty.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the Meiko M-iClean U undercounter dishwasher, in the red and gray message list of its operating instructions. Other Meiko models and other controller generations use different message numbers.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Message 301 on the color display
  • Glasses and plates drying with water spots
  • Dishes coming out wetter than usual
  • An empty rinse aid canister at the machine

Possible causes

Listed in MEIKO's documentation

  • Rinse aid canister empty
  • Suction line not seated in the canister
  • Dosing pump that is not drawing
  • Level sensing that reads empty by mistake

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 301 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Rinse aid line pulled up off the canister bottom when the container was last swapped
  • Air in the rinse aid line after a canister change, so the pump does not prime
  • Canister fitted with a thicker or crystallized product that the line cannot pull

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Refill or replace the rinse aid canister, as the maker says.
  2. Wear the gloves and eye protection the chemical maker calls for, and keep the product off your skin.
  3. Make sure the suction line sits at the bottom of the canister.
  4. Run a cycle and watch whether 301 clears.
  5. If 301 stays after a full canister, note the canister brand and how long it has been fitted, then call us. Never bypass the dosing pump.

How a technician diagnoses error code 301

  1. Read the message and confirm 301 is the only active entry.
  2. Check the canister, the pick-up line and the line fittings for kinks, air leaks and a loose connection.
  3. Prime the dosing line and watch the pump draw product.
  4. Measure what the pump actually delivers during a rinse.
  5. Test the level sensing against a known full canister.
  6. Replace the pump or sensor only after the test shows it has failed.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The dosing pump and its tubing are chemical-handling parts, and working on them risks skin and eye contact with concentrated product.
  • Checking the delivered volume needs a measured test cycle with the machine's own dosing data.
  • A sensor that reads empty by mistake has to be tested against the control, which means opening the cabinet.

How error code 301 differs from similar codes

Message 311 is the matching warning for detergent, and 301 is only rinse aid.

301Questions about MEIKO error code 301
Can I keep washing while 301 is on?

Yes, the machine still washes. Expect spotted glassware and slow drying until the canister is refilled.

I refilled the canister and 301 stayed. Why?

The line may not reach the product, or the pump may have lost its prime. That is when to call us rather than force it.

Does 301 clear on its own?

Not until the rinse aid supply is detected again, so refilling is the step that matters.
