Hobart Legacy+ Mixer Error ErF: Data Save Error on Low Voltage
ErF is a data save error on Hobart Legacy+ HL800 and HL1400 mixers: supply voltage sagged and the motor drive could not finish saving its data. Turn the power off, wait until the display is dark, check the plug or disconnect, and try a normal batch with the guard closed. If ErF keeps returning, call us.
Medium: the mixer stops until power is cycled, and a repeating low-voltage cause can affect other equipment.
What does Hobart error code ErF mean?
When voltage sags, the motor drive tries to save its data before it loses power. ErF appears when the dip, an under voltage event, comes at a moment when the save cannot be completed. The SmartTimer shows the code as an ER number, and the mixer will not run until power is cycled and the cause is corrected. Since low voltage is behind it, ErF often appears along with an LU code or after a brownout. The causes the manual lists are supply voltage dips when the mixer or nearby equipment starts, loose connections at the plug or disconnect, and, if ErF comes back without a voltage event, the drive itself. The code points at voltage but does not show where the dip comes from. A supply that sags can harm other equipment on the same circuit as well, so a repeat is worth following up even if the mixer seems to recover. The display text is ErF. We usually watch the voltage while the mixer starts a heavy batch.
Affected models and control systems

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- ErF on the SmartTimer display
- Mixer will not run until power is cycled
- Code appearing along with LU or after a brownout
Possible causes
Listed in Hobart's documentation
- Supply voltage dips when the mixer or nearby equipment starts
- Loose connections at the plug or disconnect
- Drive, if ErF comes back without a voltage event
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code ErF on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A walk-in compressor or dish machine starting on the same feeder
- An undersized extension or long run to the mixer that drops voltage under load
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the mixer's power off and wait until the display is dark before switching it back on.
- Make sure the plug or disconnect is firmly in place.
- Try a normal batch with the bowl guard closed.
- If ErF keeps returning, call us.
- Tell us what else was starting at the time and whether other equipment dimmed or hesitated.
How a technician diagnoses error code ErF
- Read ErF and note what equipment shares the circuit.
- Measure voltage at the mixer, idle and during start-up under load.
- Inspect the plug, disconnect and terminals for heat damage.
- Trace the feeder for undersized wire or loose lugs.
- Retest the mixer after any supply correction.
- Replace the drive only if ErF returns with a stable, verified supply.
- Measuring voltage while the mixer starts means working on a live 208 to 240 V circuit.
- A supply that sags can harm other equipment too, and the cause may be in the building wiring.
- We measure voltage while the mixer starts and give a written price before any work.

Related Hobart mixer error codes
How is ErF different from Er1?
Er1 is a memory error from a flicker; ErF is a failed data save during a low-voltage event.
Why does ErF come with LU?
Both come from low supply voltage.
Can I keep using the mixer?
After one occurrence, a normal batch is reasonable. A repeat needs a supply check.
Need help with Hobart error code ErF?
A technician confirms the cause on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
