BUNN Coffee Brewer Message Temp Sensor Out Of Range: Check Connections
Temp Sensor Out Of Range, Check For Bad Connections means the temperature probe wire is broken or not making contact, an open circuit. Check the wire and connection of both the black and white probe wires.
High: the control cannot read the tank temperature, so heating is not safe.

What does BUNN Temp Sensor Out Of Range mean?
The brewer reads the tank temperature through a probe with two wires, one black and one white. The control expects a resistance within a normal range. If a wire is broken or has pulled out of its connector, the circuit is open and the reading is out of range. The control then displays Temp Sensor Out Of Range, Check For Bad Connections. The programming manual's Troubleshooting page gives the action: check the wire and connection of both the black and white probe wires. The only cause listed is that the probe wires are broken or not making connection. This message differs from the one that says Check Wire For Shorts. That one means the wires are touching the housing or each other. An open circuit reads as very high resistance, and a short reads as very low, and the control tells them apart.
Affected models and control systems
BUNN Infusion Series bean-to-cup brewers: ITB, ITCB and HV models, and the ICB and Twin. Other BUNN brewer lines use a different message list.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes
Listed in BUNN's documentation
- Probe wire(s) broken or not making connection
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Temp Sensor Out Of Range on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Probe connector loosened during cleaning
- Wire stretched when the brewer was moved
- Corrosion at the probe terminals
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the brewer off and unplug it.
- Do not open the brewer or touch the probe wires.
- Switch it on again after a minute to see whether the message returns.
- If it returns, note it and tell the technician.
How a technician diagnoses Temp Sensor Out Of Range
- Read the message and confirm it is the open circuit version.
- Inspect both the black and white probe wires and the connections.
- Measure the probe resistance and continuity.
- Reseat or repair the connection, or replace the probe.
- Check the temperature reading after the repair.
- The probe circuit connects to the live control board.
- Access to the probe means opening the brewer and handling hot parts.
- A bad reading can lead to overheating if misread.
How Temp Sensor Out Of Range differs from similar codes
This is the open circuit version. The Check Wire For Shorts message is the short circuit version.
