Traulsen Refrigerator Error Code ELE LOS: Electrical Loss
ELE LOS on a Traulsen Intela-Traul cabinet tells you power was interrupted and has come back. Clear it with the alarm cancel button, then probe a few items to see how warm the food got. If it returns with no known outage, check the plug and breaker and call us.
Low: a notice about a past power interruption; the cabinet keeps running.

What does Traulsen ELE LOS mean?
ELE LOS is short for electrical loss. When the Intela-Traul control powers up after an interruption, it notes that the supply was lost and shows ELE LOS so nobody assumes the cabinet ran steadily the whole time. On newer cabinets the cabinet temperature flashes alternately with ELE LOS as the unit first starts. The message is a notice, not an error by itself. Its practical meaning is that food may have warmed while the cabinet was off, and that the clock and date may need to be set again, especially where defrost lockouts or stored data are in use. Pressing the alarm cancel button clears it. A cabinet that shows ELE LOS repeatedly without an outage in the building is telling you the supply to the cabinet is being interrupted somewhere between the outlet and the control.

What you may notice
- ELE LOS shown after the cabinet restarts
- Cabinet temperature flashing alternately with ELE LOS
- Clock or date reset to a default
- Food warmer than normal after a power interruption
Possible causes
Listed in Traulsen's documentation
- A power outage or tripped breaker
- Loose plug or outlet
- A short interruption during a storm
- Clock and date lost if defrost lockouts are used
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind ELE LOS on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cord pulled partway out by a cart or by cleaning around the cabinet
- An outlet shared with other kitchen equipment that trips under load
- A switched or GFCI outlet that drops out for a moment
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the alarm cancel button to clear the message.
- Probe a few items with a thermometer to see how far the outage warmed them.
- Reset the clock and date if you use defrost lockouts or stored data.
- If ELE LOS appears again without a known outage, check the plug and breaker.
- Write down the dates and times it appeared for the service call.
How a technician diagnoses ELE LOS
- Ask when ELE LOS first appeared and compare it with outages or breaker trips.
- Check the plug, outlet and breaker for a firm fit and proper voltage under load.
- Measure supply voltage at the cabinet while other kitchen equipment starts.
- Inspect the cord and its entry to the cabinet for heat marks or a loose strain relief.
- Confirm the clock, date and any defrost lockout settings after the restart.
- Repair the supply issue first and watch for a repeat before suspecting the control.
- Voltage testing at the outlet and inside the cabinet involves live 115 V or higher circuits.
- A breaker that trips repeatedly points to a wiring or load problem that needs a licensed electrician's attention.
- Rebuilding clock and defrost schedule settings uses the control's own service data.

Is ELE LOS an error that needs a repair?
Not by itself. It reports that power was lost and returned; the concern is food temperature after the outage.
Is the food safe after ELE LOS appears?
Probe the product with a thermometer rather than guessing. Anything that warmed past safe holding temperature should follow your food-safety rules.
It keeps coming back. What does that mean?
Power to the cabinet is dropping out again and again, often from a loose plug, a shared outlet or a breaker, and it is worth having traced.
