Traulsen Refrigerator Error Code Door Open: Door Left Ajar
Door Open on a Traulsen R or A Series cabinet means the Intela-Traul control has seen the door open for two minutes. Close the door, make sure it seats fully, and clear anything pressing on its edge. If the message stays on with the door shut, a technician should check the gasket, hinges and door switch.
Low: an operator alert; the cabinet keeps cooling while the door is open.

What does Traulsen Door Open mean?
The Intela-Traul control watches the door switch all the time. When the door opens, a door-open icon lights right away. If the door is still open after two minutes, the display changes to Door Open. After another thirteen minutes the audible alarm sounds, and it sounds once more five minutes later. The staged timing lets a crew load a shelf without noise while still warning someone before warm kitchen air drives the box temperature up. The message is informational and clears once the control sees the door closed again. If it will not clear with the door shut, the control is being told the door is open when it is not, or the door is not truly seating. Fire-rated and sliding-glass-door cabinets do not show this message, so their silence is normal.
Affected models and control systems
Traulsen R and A Series reach-in cabinets with an Intela-Traul control, for example the RHT232WUT. Fire-rated and sliding-glass-door versions do not display this message.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- A door-open icon lights on the display
- Door Open text appears after two minutes
- The audible alarm sounds if the door stays open
- The message stays on even though the door looks closed
Possible causes
Listed in Traulsen's documentation
- A worn gasket that keeps the Traulsen door from sealing flush
- A hinge or door hardware out of line, leaving the door ajar
- A door switch out of position so the Intela-Traul control sees it open
- Pans or product pushing against the door edge
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Door Open on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A door that drifts open slowly because the cabinet is not level on its feet
- A switch plunger packed with sticky spills so it no longer springs back
- A door left unlatched at closing time so a slow warm-up begins overnight
Safe checks before calling for service
- Close the door and make sure it seats fully.
- Look for pans or boxes blocking it.
- Press the alarm cancel button if the alarm is sounding.
- Check the gasket for gaps or tears.
- If the message stays with the door shut, note how long it has been on and whether the door closes with a firm latch.
How a technician diagnoses Door Open
- Confirm the door closes square and the latch pulls it fully against the gasket.
- Inspect the gasket around the whole frame for gaps, tears and flattened sections.
- Check the hinges and door hardware for sag and re-align if needed.
- Test the door switch operation with a meter while closing and opening the door.
- Check the switch wiring and connector at the control for a loose or damaged lead.
- Replace the switch or gasket only after the test shows which one is the cause.
- The door switch signal runs to the control through low-voltage wiring that has to be traced behind the panel.
- Re-hanging a door or replacing hardware needs the right fasteners and alignment so the seal holds.
- A gasket that leaks air lets the box run warm and forces the compressor to work harder, which takes a seal test to confirm.
How Door Open differs from similar codes
Fire-rated and sliding-glass-door models never show Door Open, so a missing message on those cabinets is expected.

Why does the message come after two minutes but the alarm much later?
The display warns first, and the alarm waits another thirteen minutes so brief openings do not trigger noise. It gives a busy crew time to close up.
Will Door Open clear by itself?
Yes, once the control sees the door closed. If it stays on with the door shut, the door is not seating or the switch is stuck.
My sliding-glass-door cabinet never shows it. Is something wrong?
No. That version does not use this message.
