Traulsen Refrigerator Error Code Clean Filter: Condenser Alarm
Clean Filter, CLean FiLter and CLN-FIL are the same condenser clean alarm, written differently on Traulsen cabinets. The control sees operating pressures or temperatures above the safe range. Silence the alarm, clean the condenser filter or coil as your owner's manual shows, and clear the air path around the cabinet.
Medium: an alarm that can be cleared by cleaning, but it can shut the compressor down if ignored.

What does Traulsen Clean Filter / CLean FiLter / CLN-FIL mean?
A refrigerated cabinet depends on its condenser to give off heat. When the condenser filter or coil is dirty, the heat cannot leave, and pressures and temperatures climb. The Intela-Traul control watches for that, and when it sees values above the safe range it shows the condenser clean alarm. The wording differs by model: Clean Filter and CLean FiLter on R and A Series and TS Series, and CLN-FIL on the TS Series and the TU undercounters. On the TS Series, a discharge temperature above 140 F triggers the alarm, and above 160 F the compressor and fan switch off until it falls below 140 F. After 24 hours the words Call Service are added. The manual lists a dirty condenser coil or filter limiting airflow, a fan not moving enough air, a cabinet in a tight or hot space, and a discharge sensor reading high. Cleaning is the operator's job, but only to the extent the owner's manual shows.

What you may notice
- Clean Filter or CLN-FIL shows and an alarm sounds
- The cabinet runs warm or the compressor stops on the TS Series above 160 F
- Call Service is added after 24 hours
Possible causes
Listed in Traulsen's documentation
- Dirty condenser coil or filter limiting airflow
- Fan not moving enough air
- Cabinet in a tight or hot space
- Discharge sensor reading high
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Clean Filter / CLean FiLter / CLN-FIL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Grease-laden kitchen air that coats the filter faster than the usual cleaning schedule
- A cabinet built in with too little clearance for the condenser airflow
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the alarm cancel button to silence the alarm.
- Turn the cabinet off at its switch if it is in a hot spot and allow it to cool.
- Clean the condenser filter or coil as your owner's manual shows.
- Make sure the air path around the cabinet is clear.
- Call us if the message returns.
How a technician diagnoses Clean Filter / CLean FiLter / CLN-FIL
- Read the message and ask when the filter was last cleaned.
- Inspect the condenser coil and filter and clean them.
- Check that the condenser fan runs and moves air.
- Check the clearance and ambient heat around the cabinet.
- Compare the discharge sensor reading with a thermometer on the line.
- Replace the fan or sensor only after the tests.
- Cleaning inside the refrigeration compartment exposes fan blades and live wiring.
- A high discharge temperature on a sealed system needs gauges and careful reading.
- If the sensor reads high while the system is fine, only a meter shows it.
How Clean Filter / CLean FiLter / CLN-FIL differs from similar codes
Clean Filter is the condenser alarm. Call Service (system leak) is a different alarm for a possible refrigerant leak.

Why are there three spellings?
The same alarm is worded differently across R, A, TS and TU models.
What happens at 160 F?
On the TS Series the compressor and fan switch off until the discharge temperature falls below 140 F.
Will cleaning clear it?
Often yes, if the filter or coil was dirty. If it returns, call us.
