Common Mahlkönig problems we fix
In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.
Grinder hums but does not grind
Display red or not measuring
Grind not fine enough
Beans bridging above the inlet
Circuit-breaker tripped
Motor protector switched off when hot
Mahlkönig Models We Service
The Mahlkönig grinders we see in cafes include the E65W GbS, a grind-by-weight grinder with a display and a weighing cell. The E65S, E65S GbW and E80S GbW are the earlier S generation, with menu diagnostics. The EK43, EK43 S, EKK43 and Peak are single-dose grinders used on many bars and in retail coffee shops.
The E65W GbS has a thermal overcurrent circuit-breaker with a reset button, and a motor protector that switches the motor off when it gets hot. If a grinder stops, let it cool and then restart it. If it trips again, a heavy load such as a very fine setting, a worn burr or a jammed mechanism is the likely reason, and we look for it.
What We Check
A grinder that hums but does not grind has a blocked mechanism. The owner’s manual says to set the grind to its coarsest and run it, and if that does not clear it, we take over. Beans that bridge over the inlet keep the grinder from feeding steadily. When the display is red or the weight is not measured, the weighing cell needs calibration, and we do that. Grinds that are not fine enough usually mean worn discs or a fine calibration that has drifted.
Coffee dust and oils collect in a grinder in a busy shop, and we clean while we repair. On older units we tell you plainly when a repair no longer pays. You get a written price before work starts, and the repair carries a 30-day warranty.
Mahlkönig lines and model numbers we service
Current and older lines. Find the number on the data plate and open its series for the usual repairs.
My Mahlkönig hums but does not grind. What should I do?
Set the grind to its coarsest setting and run the grinder, as the owner's manual describes. If it still hums, switch it off and call us.
What if the circuit-breaker on my E65W GbS trips?
Let the motor cool, press the reset button and restart. If it trips again, something is overloading the motor, such as worn burrs or a jam, and we find which.
Do you repair the EK43?
Yes. We service the EK43, EK43 S, EKK43 and Peak along with the E65 and E80 grinders. The model name tells us which parts to bring.
