Alto-Shaam Combi Oven Error Code E08: Error Received from Lower VFD
E08 Error Received from Lower VFD means the lower fan drive on a roll-in oven is flashing its green LED to report a problem. Press the Start icon to acknowledge it, and have the blink count matched to the drive error list.
High: the lower drive reports an error and the lower fan may not run.

What does Alto-Shaam error code E08 mean?
Roll-in combi ovens have a lower fan drive, called the lower VFD, beside the upper one. This drive keeps watch over itself and the motor it runs, and when something is wrong it flashes a green LED in a pattern. The control board reads that report and posts E08 Error Received from Lower VFD. It is the lower-drive twin of E07. The difference from E06 matters: E06 says the board could not reach the drive, while E08 says it reached the drive and the drive itself reported trouble. The screen does not say what the trouble is. The manual tells the technician to match the blink count to the VFD error list. Pressing Start acknowledges the message and lets the oven try to return to normal operation, but the drive reports again when it sees the same condition. The manual lists no fixed causes for E08 beyond that blink list.
Affected models and control systems
Only roll-in CTP and CTC combis carry a lower fan drive, so E08 belongs to the larger roll-in models. A table-top oven has one drive and never shows this number.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E08 Error Received from Lower VFD on the display
- Lower fan not running while the upper fan does
- Oven stopping a program soon after it starts
Possible causes
Listed in Alto-Shaam's documentation
- The VFD LED blink code list gives the specific condition
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E08 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Heat building around the lower drive in a tight, steamy installation space
- A motor winding or cable problem that the lower drive detects as an overload
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the Start icon once to acknowledge E08.
- Check that the area around the base of the oven is clear and dry.
- If E07 also appeared, write it down, since it may mean both drives are affected.
- If E08 returns, give the technician the dates and times it appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code E08
- Read the code and confirm this is a roll-in oven with a lower drive.
- With power on and the cover off, count the blinks of the drive's green LED.
- Match the count to the manual's VFD error list.
- Check the lower motor windings and wiring with a meter as the list directs.
- Replace the drive or motor only after the listed condition is proven.
- The lower drive and its LED are inside the base of the oven, where moisture and 208-240 V sit close together.
- Motor and cable insulation tests require the lower fan to be disconnected.
- The drive's blink list must be applied by someone who knows the oven's wiring.
How error code E08 differs from similar codes
E07 is the same error for the table-top or upper drive; E06 means no answer from the lower drive at all.

What does the green LED do?
It flashes a repeating pattern that tells a technician which condition the lower drive found.
Can I run the oven on the upper fan only?
No. The control does not run a roll-in oven with one drive in error.
Is E08 expensive to fix?
The cost depends on the blink code; some causes are a wiring or motor issue rather than the drive.
Need help with Alto-Shaam error code E08?
A technician confirms the cause on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
