What does Alto-Shaam error code E102 mean?
Each filter in a ventless hood presses a small switch when it is fitted. The control reads those switches to make sure the filters are in place before venting moist, greasy air. If the air filter switches are not closed, the control posts E102 Ventless Hood Fault -- Filters Not Present. The manual's checklist is the same as for E101: filters installed and clean, the hood fan, the filter switch and the pressure switch. The difference is where it starts. E102 points first to a missing or poorly seated filter, or a switch that does not register one, while E101 points to the power or pressure switch. A dirty filter can also sit badly in its slot. Finding the filters and seating them is the operator's part; a message that persists with every filter in place moves to a technician.
Affected models and control systems

- Clean the filters, since dirt can stop them seating flat.
- If E102 returns with all filters in, tell the technician and give the filters' part numbers if you can.
How a technician diagnoses error code E102
- Read the code and confirm all filters are fitted.
- Check each filter switch for movement and continuity.
- Verify the hood fan and the pressure switch as in E101.

- Replace a switch after it fails the test.
- The switches are wired into the control circuit with live voltage.
- Grease on hood parts is a fire hazard.
- Telling a filter switch problem from a pressure problem needs a meter.
