Beverage-Air Refrigerator Error Code Lo: Low Temperature Alarm

Lo on a Beverage-Air cabinet with a Danfoss controller is the low temperature alarm, and it means the air temperature fell lower than the low alarm limit for the delay time. Look inside for frozen produce or bottles, make sure nothing blocks the air vents, and check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: the cabinet keeps running and the main risk is frozen product and wasted power.

What does Beverage-Air error code Lo mean?

Alongside its high alarm, the Danfoss controller watches for a cabinet that is too cold. When the air falls below the low alarm limit for the delay time, Lo is shown. A cabinet that is too cold can freeze produce and drinks and waste power, and the cause may be a control or sensor problem rather than anything in the load. The manual lists a sensor reading wrong, set point or alarm limits changed, a compressor not cycling off, and product blocking air flow so that one area chills hard. These split into two groups. A wrong sensor or a changed limit makes the display and the alarm wrong. A compressor that never cycles off, or product in front of the vents, makes the cold real. A separate thermometer tells you which group you are in. Since a freezer is meant to be cold, this alarm matters on refrigerators, prep tables and bar coolers, and the same message is seen on the freezers and worktop freezers whose limits are set too low.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Beverage-Air cabinets with a Danfoss controller, such as the UCF27HC freezer and WTF48AHC worktop freezer, and refrigerators, prep tables and bar coolers with the same control. Eliwell-controlled cabinets use different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Lo shows while the compressor runs
  • Produce, bottles or liquids are partly frozen
  • The cabinet feels colder than the set point
  • The power bill climbs

Possible causes

Listed in Beverage-Air's documentation

  • Sensor reading wrong
  • Set point or alarm limits changed
  • Compressor not cycling off
  • Product blocking air flow so one area chills hard

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Lo on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A case of liquids stacked in front of the air vent so one shelf chills far below the rest
  • A set point or alarm limit changed by a button press during cleaning
  • A sensor that has slipped next to the evaporator and reads colder than the box

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Look inside for frozen produce, bottles or liquids.
  2. Make sure nothing blocks the air vents.
  3. Check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer.
  4. Move delicate items to a warmer spot.
  5. If Lo returns, note the time and the thermometer reading, and call us.

How a technician diagnoses error code Lo

  1. Read the display and compare it with a reference thermometer.
  2. Check the set point and alarm limits.
  3. Check the sensor position and its reading.
  4. Watch whether the compressor cycles off at the set point.
  5. Check the compressor relay output.
  6. Correct the setting or replace the part the test shows.
! Leave this to a technician
  • A wrong setting can disable the real alarms.
  • The sensor and compressor relay sit inside the cabinet and need a meter.
  • Frozen product means the cause has to be found.
