Champion Dishwasher Rinse Display H HH: Rinse Over 200F

H HH on the rinse display of a Champion UH-series dishwasher means the rinse temperature is above 200F. Switch the machine off and wait until the booster area has cooled. Call service if it repeats.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the rinse water is over 200F, a scald risk that points to heat not being shut off.

What does Champion error code H HH mean?

The rinse display reads the booster thermistor and shows the booster temperature. When the reading rises above 200F, the board shows H HH instead of a number. That is higher than the booster should ever run, and it means heat is not being turned off when the water has reached its target. A booster element held on by a stuck contactor is a typical cause, as is a thermistor that reads cooler than the real water. Either way, water and steam at that temperature are a scald risk, and a booster running unchecked can overheat its tank. The manual's response is to turn the machine off, let it cool and call service if the indication returns. Allowing the unit to rest answers whether it was a one-time spike or a control that is not shutting the heat off properly.

Affected models and control systems

UH130, UH130B, UH230, UH230B and UH330B M4 series dishwashers with the digital temperature display board; see the Digital Temperature Display Codes, printed pp. 54-57.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • H HH on the rinse side of the display
  • Very hot or steaming final rinse
  • Booster area too hot to touch
  • Wash display possibly normal at the same time

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code H HH on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Rinse temperature above 200F
  • A booster contactor stuck closed so the heater never turns off
  • A rinse thermistor that reads cooler than the true water temperature
  • A control board output that keeps the booster heater energized

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the machine off and let the booster cool before touching anything near it.
  2. Keep hands clear of the rinse arms and booster area while they are hot.
  3. Restart after cooling and see whether H HH comes back.
  4. Write down when it appeared and how the wash display looked.

How a technician diagnoses error code H HH

  1. Verify the real rinse water temperature with a thermometer.
  2. See whether the booster heater remains energized at the set temperature.
  3. Check the booster contactor contacts for sticking.
  4. Compare the rinse thermistor reading with actual temperature and inspect its wiring.
  5. Replace the contactor, thermistor or board only after the test identifies the failed one.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Water above 200F is a scald hazard, and a booster that stays on is a live 208 to 240 V circuit.
  • Contactor and heater tests are made behind the panel with power on, then locked out.
  • Separating a stuck contactor from a false sensor requires a thermometer and a meter.

How error code H HH differs from similar codes

On the rinse display the high indication is over 200F, while on the wash display H HH means over 180F.

H HHQuestions about Champion error code H HH
Can I keep washing with H HH on the rinse side?

No. Turn the machine off and let it cool, since the booster is hotter than it should be.

Does H HH clear after cooling?

It can. If it returns, the booster controls or thermistor need to be tested.

Is this the same as the H booster lockout?

No. The lockout is a separate booster display with 150 on wash, over 210F, and the machine waits 10 minutes.
