Champion Dishwasher Wash Display H HH: Wash Over 180F
H HH on the wash display of a Champion UH-series dishwasher means the wash temperature is above 180F. Turn the machine off and let it cool. Call service if it comes back.
High: the wash water is over 180F, which is a scald risk and a sign the heater is not being shut off.

What does Champion error code H HH mean?
The wash display reads the wash tank thermistor and normally prints a temperature. When the value goes above 180F, it switches to H HH, a high-temperature indication. Wash water for a machine like this is meant to stay far below that, so a reading over 180F suggests heat is not being shut off when it should be. It may be a heater element held on, a contactor that has stuck closed, or a thermistor that reads wrong and tells the board the tank is cooler than it is. The manual's response is to turn the machine off, allow it to cool, and call service if the code repeats. The reason to power down is practical: water that hot can scald, and a heater that keeps running can damage the tank and the parts around it. A single high reading after an unusual event can clear after cooling, but a repeat needs measurement.

What you may notice
- H HH on the wash display
- Steam or very hot water at the wash tank
- Heater that seems to keep working with the tank already hot
- Dishes or racks too hot to handle
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code H HH on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Wash temperature above 180F
- A heater contactor that has stuck in the closed position
- A wash thermistor that reads colder than the water really is
- A control board output that keeps the heater energized
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the machine off at its switch and let the tank cool before touching racks or water.
- Do not open panels and do not put your hands in the tank while it is hot.
- Turn the machine back on after it has cooled and watch whether H HH returns.
- Write down whether the code appeared during heat-up or in the middle of a shift.
How a technician diagnoses error code H HH
- Confirm the wash reading against a calibrated thermometer in the tank.
- Check whether the heater is energized when the tank is at set temperature.
- Inspect the heater contactor for sticking contacts.
- Check the wash thermistor value against the real temperature and the harness for damage.
- Replace the contactor, thermistor or board only after the tests show which one is wrong.
- Water over 180F can cause scalds, and a heater that stays on is a live 208 to 240 V circuit.
- The contactor and heater wiring sit behind the panel and are tested with power on and then locked out.
- Telling a stuck contactor from a false thermistor reading takes a thermometer and a meter together.
How error code H HH differs from similar codes
H HH on the wash display is a 180F limit; on the rinse display the same indication means over 200F, and a separate H on the booster side with 150 on wash is an overtemp lockout.

Is it safe to keep washing with H HH?
No. Turn the machine off and let it cool, because the wash water is hotter than it should be.
Will H HH clear itself after cooling?
It can. If it returns, a heater control or a thermistor is wrong and needs testing.
Does H HH mean the thermistor is bad?
Not necessarily. A defective thermistor shows E. H HH means the temperature reading itself is above 180F.
