Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E CAb: Cabinet Limit Open
E CAb means the cabinet limit has opened, which cut the heat because the area inside the dryer cabinet ran too hot. The cycle ends early and clothes may still be damp. Switch the dryer off at the disconnect, let it cool, empty the lint screen, and do not open the cabinet to look for lint.
High: heat is building where it should not, so the dryer should not run until the cause is found.
What does Cissell error code E CAb mean?
The cabinet limit on a Cissell OPL dryer such as the CT030N is a safety thermostat that watches the temperature inside the cabinet, away from the drum. It sits in the path of the exhaust and the hot air that travels around the heating parts. If that area gets hotter than it should, the thermostat opens, the control sees the loss of the circuit and cuts the heat. The control shows E CAb and ends the cycle. The usual root is trapped heat: lint around the thermostat, a restricted exhaust that lets the heat build up, or low airflow through the cabinet. The code is a high-priority protection because a hot cabinet can wear out wiring and other parts over time. A single event followed by a clean lint screen can be an isolated overheat. If E CAb returns, the airflow or the limit itself must be inspected before the dryer is used again.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CT030N.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E CAb appears and the cycle ends early
- Clothes are damp and the cabinet feels very warm
- The dryer will not restart until it cools
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- Lint packed around the cabinet thermostat
- Poor exhaust that lets heat build in the cabinet
- A cabinet thermostat or control that misreads the limit
- Weak fan airflow through the cabinet
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E CAb on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cabinet that has not been vacuumed inside for years, so lint has insulated the thermostat
- A long or poorly sloped duct that lets exhaust heat flow back into the cabinet
- A limit that has weakened with age and now opens at a lower temperature than it should
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the dryer off at the disconnect and let the cabinet cool.
- Empty the lint screen and clean lint from the lint door area.
- Never open the cabinet to chase lint yourself.
- Turn power on and run one cycle, and call us if E CAb returns. Note the load type.
How a technician diagnoses error code E CAb
- Read the code and ask how much lint and how long since the cabinet was cleaned.
- Inspect the cabinet interior, thermostat and duct for lint and heat damage.
- Check airflow and the exhaust path.
- Test the cabinet limit for its opening temperature and continuity.
- Replace the limit or correct the airflow only after the test, and look for heat damage to the wiring nearby.
- Heat inside the cabinet is a safety concern, and the cause must be found before the dryer runs again.
- Cleaning inside the cabinet needs the power locked off at the disconnect and panels removed.
- A limit that is replaced without fixing the airflow will simply open again.
How error code E CAb differs from similar codes
E SL and E SL2 are the two stove limits that guard the burner area. E CAb guards the cabinet, away from the drum.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
Can I keep using the dryer if E CAb clears?
Not without having the cause checked. A limit opened for a reason, and heat may build up again.
Is E CAb a lint problem?
Often, yes, but lint inside the cabinet needs a technician with the power off.
Will it reset by itself?
The limit may close again when it cools, but the cause is still there.
