Cissell OPL Dryer Error Code E FnCS: Fan Centrifugal Switch
E FnCS means the fan motor centrifugal switch circuit is reporting a problem. That switch tells the control that the fan motor has come up to speed, and without the signal the control stops the cycle. Turn off power and let the cabinet cool, clean the lint screen and visible motor vents, and keep the cabinet closed.
Medium: the dryer stops until the fan motor signal is restored.
What does Cissell error code E FnCS mean?
When the exhaust fan motor in a Cissell OPL dryer such as the CT030N starts, it runs at first on a starting winding. Once it comes up to speed, a centrifugal switch inside the motor opens that winding and the motor settles into normal running. The control watches the signal from that switch, because it is the confirmation that the fan is actually up to speed and moving air. If the signal never appears, appears at the wrong time or does not match the motor's behavior, the control stops the cycle and shows E FnCS. Staff may notice the exhaust fan struggling, taking longer to spin up, or not starting at all. Dust and lint in the motor vents can interfere with the switch. The switch wiring, the way the motor starts, and the control input can all be involved. Because the switch is part of the motor, a technician decides between a repair and a replacement.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Cissell OPL electronic control tumble dryers, 25 to 35 lb C-prefix models such as the CT030N.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E FnCS appears shortly after the cycle starts
- Exhaust fan sounds slow, labored or hums without spinning
- Drum turns but the heat does not come on
Possible causes
Listed in Cissell's documentation
- Dust and lint in the fan motor vents
- Damaged centrifugal switch wiring
- A fan motor that does not start up correctly
- A control input that misreads the switch
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E FnCS on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A start winding that has weakened, so the motor takes too long to reach switching speed
- Fan bearings that drag after years of lint and heat, so the motor never reaches full speed
- A switch contact that has pitted and no longer opens cleanly as the motor speeds up
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn off power to the dryer and let the cabinet cool down.
- Clean the lint screen and wipe lint away from any motor vent openings you can see from the outside.
- Keep the cabinet closed and the motor wiring untouched.
- Restore power once, and call us to schedule service if E FnCS appears again. Note any humming from the fan.
How a technician diagnoses error code E FnCS
- Read the code and listen to the fan start with the cabinet open and power locked off during setup.
- Check supply voltage to the motor and the condition of the start circuit.
- Measure the centrifugal switch circuit and motor winding resistances.
- Check the fan for drag, bearings and lint at the motor.
- Replace the motor or the control only after the readings show where the signal is lost.
- The centrifugal switch is inside the fan motor and cannot be reached without tools.
- Motor start circuits carry line voltage, which is a shock hazard.
- A fan that cannot reach full speed moves less air, which affects heating and safety.

Related Cissell dryer error codes
What is a centrifugal switch?
It is a switch inside the motor that opens once the motor reaches speed. The control uses its signal to confirm the fan is running.
Can I run the dryer with E FnCS?
Not safely. The control cannot confirm exhaust, so it stops the cycle.
Does E FnCS mean the motor is bad?
Not always. Lint in the vents or a loose wire can cause it, but the motor is checked.
