Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E13.0: Steam Generator Sensor High
E13.0 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the steam generator sensor is reading too high a temperature. Rinse out the steam generator, and if the code stays, contact customer service.
Medium: steam stops, but dry cooking may continue.

What does Convotherm error code E13.0 mean?
The steam generator is a small boiler that turns water into steam for the cooking chamber, and a temperature sensor on it keeps the control informed. During steam production the control compares that reading with its limit. If the sensor reports a temperature above the limit, the control stops steam and shows E13.0, because a generator that runs too hot can damage itself. The manual's step is to rinse out the steam generator, which tells you what the designers expect: that heavy mineral scale or residue is insulating the sensor or the heating surface, so the sensor heats up faster than the water. The rinse flushes it. If the reading is still high afterward, either the generator is short of water, or the sensor is giving a false value, and the next step is the manual's second one, to contact customer service.
Affected models and control systems
The OES, OEB, OGS and OGB combi ovens (pre-C4). We used the translated English user manual for the line, which carries no revision or part number in the text we read.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E13.0 on the display
- Steam production stops
- Dry-heat cooking still possible
- White scale around the steam outlet or drain
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E13.0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Mineral scale built up inside the steam generator
- Generator running low on water because of a slow fill
- Steam generator sensor drifting or reading falsely high
- Rinse cycle skipped during routine care
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the oven off and let it cool.
- Run the steam generator rinse as described in the user manual.
- Restart and request steam to see whether E13.0 returns.
- If it does, stop using steam and contact customer service.
- Note how long since the last rinse or descaling.
How a technician diagnoses error code E13.0
- Read E13.0 and the history.
- Check the water supply and level in the generator.
- Inspect the generator for scale and descale if needed.
- Compare the sensor reading with a reference thermometer.
- Check sensor wiring.
- Replace the sensor only after the generator is clean.
- The generator holds hot water and steam under heat, so draining and opening it needs care.
- Descaling uses chemicals that need correct dosing and rinsing.
- The sensor circuit is tested with the oven powered.
How error code E13.0 differs from similar codes
E13.0 reports a high steam generator reading, while E23.0 and E23.1 report an open or shorted steam generator sensor circuit.

Is E13.0 a sensor failure?
Not necessarily. The manual points to rinsing the generator first, which means scale or residue is the likely reason.
Can I keep baking without steam?
Dry cooking may be possible, but steam and combi programs will stay off.
How often should the generator be rinsed?
The manual page we read gives no interval for that.
