Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E15.0: Condenser Sensor High

E15.0 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the condenser sensor is reading too high a temperature. Open the water supply first, and if the code stays, contact customer service.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: steam stops until the condenser cools, but a closed tap is a simple fix.

What does Convotherm error code E15.0 mean?

A condenser on a combi oven cools the hot exhaust steam before it leaves the unit, and a temperature sensor on it tells the control how well that cooling is working. The control compares the reading with its limit while the oven runs. If the condenser sensor reads above the limit, the control stops steam and shows E15.0 so that hot vapor is not pushed into the drain or the room. The manual's operator step is to open the water supply, which points to a condenser that is not getting the water it needs to cool and therefore heats up. The step is quick: look at the tap, look at the hose, and restart. If water is clearly reaching the oven and the code stays, then a valve may not be opening or the sensor may be reading wrongly, and both of those need testing with the cover off by a technician.

Affected models and control systems

Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB combi ovens (the older, pre-C4 line), from that line's user manual, an English translation of the original edition. It does not state a revision number.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E15.0 on the display
  • Steam functions stop
  • Hot vapor coming from the drain or exhaust
  • Water tap found closed or partly closed

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E15.0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Water tap closed after cleaning
  • Low pressure reducing flow to the condenser
  • Condenser water valve not opening
  • Condenser sensor reading falsely high

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Open the water supply tap to the oven fully.
  2. Check the supply hose for kinks or a crushed section behind the oven.
  3. Restart the oven and run a short steam program to see if the code returns.
  4. If E15.0 stays, stop steaming and contact customer service.
  5. Note whether steam or hot vapor was coming from the drain when it happened.

How a technician diagnoses error code E15.0

  1. Read E15.0 and the history to see how long the oven steamed before it tripped.
  2. Verify that water is present at the oven and measure supply pressure under flow.
  3. Test the condenser water valve for coil voltage and for flow when it is commanded on.
  4. Compare the condenser sensor reading with a reference thermometer on the same spot.
  5. Check the sensor wiring and plug for damage.
  6. Replace the valve or the sensor depending on what the readings show.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Hot steam and water in the exhaust path can scald if a cover is removed at the wrong moment.
  • Valve coils run at line voltage and are tested live behind the panel.
  • A hot reading from a good sensor looks identical to one from a bad sensor without a meter and a reference thermometer.

How error code E15.0 differs from similar codes

E25.0 and E25.1 are the matching codes for the condenser sensor circuit itself being open or shorted.

E15.0Questions about Convotherm error code E15.0
Why does a condenser code point to the water tap?

The condenser cools exhaust steam with water, and the manual's first response to E15.0 is to open the water supply.

Will the oven still cook without steam?

Dry cooking may work, but steam is off until the condenser reading is back in range.

Is E15.0 the same as E14.0?

No. E14.0 is the bypass sensor reading too high, and E15.0 is the condenser sensor.
