Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E21.1: Oven Sensor Ground Fault
E21.1 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the oven sensor (B6) has a ground fault. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. Switch the oven off until a technician checks it.
High: the oven stops heating because the chamber temperature cannot be trusted.

What does Convotherm error code E21.1 mean?
Sensor B6 reports the cooking chamber temperature, and its signal is supposed to travel only through the sensor circuit. A ground fault means that signal has found another path to ground, for example because insulation on the cable has worn through, or moisture has crept into a plug. The control then sees an impossible value, cannot trust the reading, and shows E21.1 while stopping heating. The cooking chamber is hot and humid, so cable insulation and plugs near the cavity are the first places a technician looks. The condition can also depend on temperature or damp, which is why a code like this can disappear for a while and then return. The manual's response is to contact customer service, and that is correct: finding the damaged spot means tracing the cable with a meter.
Affected models and control systems
The OES, OEB, OGS and OGB combi ovens (pre-C4). We used the translated English user manual for the line, which carries no revision or part number in the text we read.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E21.1 on the display
- Oven stops heating
- Message appears at start-up or soon after heating begins
- Damp or discolored insulation near the sensor plug
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E21.1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Cable insulation worn or burned near the oven chamber
- Moisture inside the sensor plug
- Sensor body touching metal
- Sensor failed internally
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the oven off and let it cool.
- Do not touch the cable or open any panels.
- Let the oven dry out, then try one restart.
- Contact customer service as the manual instructs.
- Tell the technician whether the oven had just been steam cleaned or washed down.
How a technician diagnoses error code E21.1
- Read E21.1 and the history to see whether it appears cold or only when hot.
- Disconnect B6 and test the sensor and cable for a path to ground.
- Inspect the cable and plug for wear, heat marks and moisture.
- Check the sensor input at the board.
- Replace the cable or sensor as the tests show.
- Run a heat-up test.
- Tracing a ground path means measuring cables that run near line-voltage parts.
- Moisture in a connector can be intermittent, which needs careful, repeated testing.
- The sensor is inside the cavity, and reaching it requires panel removal.
How error code E21.1 differs from similar codes
E21.0 is the same sensor with an open circuit instead of a ground fault.

Related Convotherm combi oven error codes
What is a ground fault on a sensor?
The sensor signal is touching ground by a path it should not take, so the reading is wrong.
Could steam cleaning be the cause?
Water in a plug can do it, though the manual does not name a cause.
Can I cook at a lower setting?
No. The control cannot trust the sensor, so it stops heating altogether.
