Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E24.0: Bypass Sensor Disconnected

E24.0 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the bypass sensor (B5) is disconnected. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. Functions that depend on that sensor may stay off until it is repaired.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: steam functions may stop, but dry cooking can continue.

What does Convotherm error code E24.0 mean?

Sensor B5 is the bypass sensor. At power-up and during steam work, the control reads it, and if there is no signal, it concludes the sensor is disconnected. A wire may have pulled out of a plug, a connector may have worked loose, or the cable may be cut. With no reading, the control cannot check the bypass, so it stops the function that depends on it and shows E24.0. The wording in the manual is disconnected rather than open circuit, but the practical cause is the same, so the first place a technician looks is the sensor plug and cable. The manual says to contact customer service; there is no operator step beyond keeping notes and not disturbing the cables. The control runs this check whenever the bypass sensor is needed, so the code can show up at start-up or the moment a steam program begins and then repeat after every restart until the connection is restored. Nothing the operator does at the keypad changes whether the sensor is connected.

Affected models and control systems

The OES, OEB, OGS and OGB combi ovens (pre-C4). We used the translated English user manual for the line, which carries no revision or part number in the text we read.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E24.0 on the display
  • Steam programs stop
  • Code appears at start-up
  • Returns after each restart
  • Steam output missing although water is available

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E24.0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Sensor plug pulled out or loose
  • Cable damaged during cleaning or past service
  • Wire broken inside the cable
  • Sensor failed

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the oven off.
  2. Keep the area behind the oven clear so cables are not stepped on or pinched.
  3. Try one restart.
  4. Contact customer service as the manual instructs.
  5. Note whether the oven was recently moved or serviced.

How a technician diagnoses error code E24.0

  1. Read E24.0 and the history.
  2. Check the plug and connector at B5.
  3. Check continuity along the cable.
  4. Measure B5 resistance.
  5. Check the sensor and cable path for pinched or rubbed spots where it passes sharp edges.
  6. Replace the sensor or cable as tested.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The sensor is part of the water system, behind panels.
  • Testing is done with a meter near line-voltage parts.
  • Replacing a bypass sensor means draining part of the water system and refilling it, so the repair is plumbing as well as electrical.

How error code E24.0 differs from similar codes

E24.1 is the same sensor with a ground fault; E14.0 is the bypass sensor reading too high.

E24.0Questions about Convotherm error code E24.0
Is E24.0 about the water supply?

No. It reports the sensor circuit, not the water.

Why does the manual say disconnected?

That is the word it uses for B5. It points to a lost connection.

Can I keep cooking while E24.0 shows?

Dry-heat programs often still run, but anything that depends on the bypass reading may not start. Check the display before you load the oven.
