Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E24.1: Bypass Sensor Ground Fault
E24.1 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the bypass sensor (B5) has a ground fault. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. Functions that depend on that sensor may stay off until it is repaired.
Medium: steam functions may stop, but dry cooking can continue.

What does Convotherm error code E24.1 mean?
Sensor B5 is the bypass sensor, and the control expects its signal to stay inside its own circuit. A ground fault means the signal has found another path to ground, which usually happens when insulation wears or moisture gets into a connector. The control sees a wrong value, cannot trust it, and shows E24.1. The oven may stop functions that need the bypass reading. The manual's step is to contact customer service, because tracing a ground path takes a meter and access to the cable. Operators should not open the oven to look for the damaged spot. Moisture is the usual enemy of a sensor circuit near the water system, and condensation or a wash-down can reach a plug even when the cable looks fine. A damaged insulation path can also be intermittent, so the code may disappear after the oven dries and then return when it is next used with steam. The control reports the same message in both cases.
Affected models and control systems
Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB, the combi ovens that preceded the C4. The code comes from the line's translated user manual, and no edition number is shown in it.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E24.1 on the display
- Steam functions stop
- Code may come and go
- Moisture near the sensor plug
- Steam output missing although water is available
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E24.1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Cable insulation worn
- Moisture in the plug
- Sensor touching metal
- Sensor failed
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the oven off.
- Keep water and cleaner away from the back of the oven until a technician has looked at it.
- Try one restart.
- Contact customer service as the manual instructs.
- Note when the code appears.
How a technician diagnoses error code E24.1
- Read E24.1 and the history.
- Test B5 for a short to ground.
- Inspect the cable and plug.
- Check the board input.
- Dry the plug and connector and retest, in case moisture is the only reason.
- Run a steam test.
- Ground paths are traced near live parts.
- Intermittent damage needs careful testing.
- Replacing a bypass sensor means draining part of the water system and refilling it, so the repair is plumbing as well as electrical.
How error code E24.1 differs from similar codes
E24.0 is the same sensor disconnected.

What does a ground fault mean?
The signal reaches ground by the wrong path.
Can I keep using steam?
Not until it is repaired.
Can I keep cooking while E24.1 shows?
Dry-heat programs often still run, but anything that depends on the bypass reading may not start. Check the display before you load the oven.
