Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E26.1: Thermal Cutout Ground Fault
E26.1 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the thermal cutout (B8) has a ground fault. The manual's only response is to contact customer service. The oven will not heat until a technician has checked the safety circuit.
High: a safety circuit cannot be trusted and the oven will not heat until it is checked.

What does Convotherm error code E26.1 mean?
The thermal cutout B8 is the overheating safety device, and the control watches its circuit to know that heating is safe. A ground fault means the signal in that circuit has found a second path to ground, for example through worn insulation or a wet plug. The control then sees a reading it cannot trust, and because this is a safety circuit, it takes the cautious route: heating off, E26.1 on the display. A damaged cable in a hot area is a common reason, because heat hardens insulation until it cracks. Other reasons include moisture in the connector or the cutout touching metal. The manual's response is to contact customer service. Safety circuits are not something an operator should open, test or reset.
Affected models and control systems
Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB, the combi ovens that preceded the C4. The code comes from the line's translated user manual, and no edition number is shown in it.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E26.1 on the display
- Oven will not heat
- Message may return when the oven is hot
- Fans may run but the oven stays cold
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E26.1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Cable insulation cracked in a hot area
- Moisture in the cutout plug
- Cutout touching a metal bracket
- Cutout damaged internally
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the oven off and let it cool completely.
- Do not bypass the cutout or open the panels.
- Keep water and cleaner away from the back of the oven.
- Contact customer service as the manual instructs.
- Note whether the code appeared right after a wash-down or only after the oven had been working.
How a technician diagnoses error code E26.1
- Read E26.1 and the history.
- Disconnect the B8 circuit and test it for a path to ground.
- Inspect the cable and plug for cracked insulation, heat marks and moisture.
- Check that the cutout is not touching its mounting.
- Replace the damaged cable or cutout.
- Run a heat-up test and watch the safety circuit stay closed.
- The safety circuit is tested with a meter next to line-voltage parts.
- A replacement cutout must be the exact type the oven specifies.
- Intermittent insulation damage can hide until the oven is hot, so testing takes both cold and hot checks.
How error code E26.1 differs from similar codes
E26.0 is the same cutout with an open circuit, and E27.0 reports it reading too high.

Why does a ground fault stop heating?
The control cannot trust the safety circuit, so it holds heating off.
Could a wash-down trigger it?
Moisture in a plug can, though the manual does not name a cause.
Is E26.1 the same as E27.0?
No. E27.0 says the cutout reads too high a temperature, while E26.1 reports a ground fault in its circuit.
