What does Convotherm error code E83.0 mean?

Every cooking program is a set of choices, such as mode, temperature, humidity and time. The control checks each program against what the oven is allowed to do. When a program asks for a combination the oven does not permit, the control refuses to run it and shows E83.0 for an inadmissible cooking function. The check is about the program data, not about the hardware, so the heating, fans and steam parts are not the issue. Typical causes are a program that was saved with a wrong or unfinished entry, or data that was damaged. The manual's first step is to re-enter the cooking program, so the control has a clean copy to check. If a program that is entered correctly still gives E83.0, the stored data or the control needs attention, and the second step in the manual is to contact customer service.

Affected models and control systems

Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB, the combi ovens that preceded the C4. The code comes from the line's translated user manual, and no edition number is shown in it.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

  2. Open the program and look for steps that are blank or look wrong.
  3. Re-enter the cooking program completely, using your recipe sheet.
  4. Save it and run it once to see if E83.0 clears.
  5. If it stays, contact customer service and say which program is affected.

How a technician diagnoses error code E83.0

  1. Read E83.0 and the history and identify the program.
  2. Compare the program with one that runs correctly.
  3. Delete and re-enter the program step by step.
  4. Check that the program settings are within the limits for the model.
  5. Check the control software and stored data.
  6. Replace the control only after a clean program still fails.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Checking stored program limits for a given model needs the oven's own data.
  • Reloading data after a board change is service-menu work.
  • Repeated failures across programs point to the control itself, at line voltage.

How error code E83.0 differs from similar codes

E81.0 on the C4 line is the nearest equivalent, a cooking mode error whose response is to write the cooking profile again.
