Convotherm Combi Oven Error Code E89.1: Invalid IDM Data
E89.1 on the older Convotherm OES, OEB, OGS and OGB ovens means the identification module (IDM) holds invalid data. Unplug the appliance for about 10 seconds and restart it. If E89.1 returns, contact customer service.

What does Convotherm error code E89.1 mean?
The identification module, or IDM, tells the control which oven it belongs to, such as which model and which options are fitted. The control reads it at start-up and relies on it for limits and settings. When the data in the module is invalid, the control does not know what it is controlling, so it shows E89.1 instead of going on. The manual's first step is a power reset: unplug the appliance for about 10 seconds and restart it, which lets the control read the module again from a clean start. If a one-time glitch caused a bad read, that clears it. If the code returns, the data in the module is wrong or damaged, or the module is not seated, and only a technician with the oven's own data can restore it.

How a technician diagnoses error code E89.1
- Read E89.1 and the history to see whether it appears at every start-up.
- Check that the IDM is seated correctly.
- Check the module part against the oven's model and options.
- Read and compare the data stored in it.
- Rewrite or replace the module with the correct one.
- Confirm the oven starts and the options work.
- The module carries the model's own configuration, and wrong data can allow settings outside its limits.
- Reseating it means opening the control compartment at line voltage.
- Rewriting module data takes service software and the correct model data.
How error code E89.1 differs from similar codes
E96.0 and E99 are communication codes with the same unplug-and-restart first step, but E89.1 is about the stored model data.
