Dexter Commercial Washer Error Code F3: Memory Error

F3 (MEMORY ERROR) means the controller's memory checksum is wrong or a parameter is out of range, so the washer stops and all outputs go off. The maker says to try a soft reset with the white button. If F3 persists, take the washer out of service and call us.

Medium · inspection needed

High: all outputs go off and the washer will not run until the memory error is cleared.

What does Dexter error code F3 mean?

A Dexter VFD washer controller keeps its settings in memory: the washer size, cycle parameters and other values that tell it how to behave. At power-up and during operation it checks that this stored data is intact, using a checksum, and that every parameter sits within a sensible range. When the checksum fails or a value is out of range, the controller cannot trust its own instructions. It shuts off all outputs, stops the washer and shows F3 (MEMORY ERROR). The maker's remedy has two steps. First, a soft reset using the white button on the controller, which makes the controller reload and recheck. If the error persists after that, the PCB controller is to be replaced. A power interruption in the middle of a write can corrupt data once without any hardware being damaged, so the reset is more than a formality. The maker's list also includes the parameter setup for the washer size, which matters after any controller or drive replacement, since the wrong size value can fail the range check straight away.

Affected models and control systems

Dexter C-Series and T-series coin washers with a VFD, T-300 to T-1450, such as the T-650 Express.

What you may notice

  • F3 (MEMORY ERROR) appears and the washer is completely stopped
  • The display is on but no cycle will start
  • The error began after an outage or a breaker trip
  • It clears with a reset, then returns days later

Possible causes

Listed in Dexter's documentation

  • Corrupted settings in controller memory
  • Power interruption that corrupted memory
  • Failed PCB controller
  • Parameters set for the wrong washer size

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code F3 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A building power dip during a cycle, which interrupted the controller while it was saving data
  • A recent controller replacement where the size parameters were never fully entered

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the washer off for a minute.
  2. Press the white reset button on the controller, as the maker describes for a soft reset.
  3. Start a short test cycle.
  4. If F3 returns, take the washer out of service and call us.
  5. Note any outage or breaker trip around the time it first appeared.

How a technician diagnoses error code F3

  1. Confirm F3 and read how it behaves after a soft reset.
  2. Check the supply voltage at the washer for dips and loss of ground.
  3. Check the stored parameters against the washer size and correct any that are wrong.
  4. Inspect the controller connectors for looseness or moisture.
  5. If the memory check fails again, replace the PCB controller and re-enter the size setup.
  6. Run a complete cycle to confirm it holds.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Resetting memory on the controller means working at the board, which carries live voltage.
  • Telling corrupted settings from a failed board takes a controlled reset and a retest.
  • Washer size parameters must be set exactly, or the washer can refuse to run or run wrongly.

F3Questions about Dexter error code F3
Will I lose my settings if I press the white button?

The soft reset is the maker's own first step, and it makes the controller reload and recheck its memory.

Why did this happen after a power cut?

An interruption can corrupt data while the controller is writing it, and the checksum then fails.

Does F3 always mean a new board?

No. The maker replaces the PCB only if the error persists after the reset.
