Electrolux Washer Extractor Error Code 09: Klixon
Error code 09 means the motor became hot enough to trip the klixon breaker built into it. Let the machine cool, reduce the load, and try again. If it returns, a technician should check the klixon, the motor cable and the CPU board connection.
High: the motor has overheated, and continuing to run it can damage the windings.

What does Electrolux Professional error code 09 mean?
The drive motor contains a klixon, a small thermal breaker that opens when the windings get too hot. The CPU board watches that circuit, and when it opens, the board stops the program and shows ERROR 009 / KLIXON. The motor is the thing being protected, so the machine cannot carry on until the klixon closes again after cooling. The manual lists an overloaded drum and long stretches of low rpm as the usual reasons for the motor heating, along with a defective klixon and a short in the cable between the motor and the CPU board. In normal use a motor that is in good order and not overloaded should never trip, so a repeat is a sign something is wrong. Staff see the drum stop turning mid-cycle with a full load.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the W465H-W4300H, W475S-W4330S and W475N-W4330N washer-extractors, Type W3..., with the Compass Control. The klixon is built into the motor.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Display shows ERROR 009 / KLIXON
- Drum stops turning mid-cycle
- Motor housing warm to the touch
- Machine runs again after a cooling wait, then trips again
Possible causes
Listed in Electrolux Professional's documentation
- Overloaded drum
- Low rpm for long periods
- Defective klixon breaker in the motor
- Short in the cable between motor and CPU board
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 09 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Bearings or drive belt dragging so the motor works harder than it should
- Ventilation around the motor blocked by lint
- Repeated unbalanced spins heating the motor over a shift
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch off the machine and let the motor cool completely before trying again.
- Check the load weight against the machine's rated capacity and remove some if it is full.
- Make sure nothing blocks the air around the motor and that lint is not packed against it.
- If the message returns after a normal load, note the load weight and how many cycles ran before it tripped, then call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 09
- Read the code and ask how many cycles ran before the trip.
- Check the load and the program's rpm profile for long low-speed stretches.
- Measure motor winding resistance and the klixon contacts with the machine isolated.
- Inspect the cable between motor and CPU board for a short.
- Check bearings and drive for drag, and replace only the part that fails.
- The motor and the klixon circuit run on line voltage that must be isolated before testing.
- A klixon that trips too early can look like an overheated motor, and only a measurement tells them apart.
- Repeated trips can damage the windings, so the cause needs to be found, not just waited out.
How error code 09 differs from similar codes
Code 09 is a motor overheat protection trip, unlike the water-level codes 06, 07 and 10.

Can I reset and run the machine again?
Only after the motor has cooled and with a normal load. The klixon will not close while hot.
Does a full drum cause this?
Yes. The manual lists an overloaded drum and long periods of low rpm as causes.
How long before the klixon closes?
That varies. The manual gives no time, so allow the motor to cool fully before trying.
