Henny Penny OFG-391 Fryer Error Code E-47: A-to-D Failure
E-47 means an A-to-D failure, which is the analog converter chip. Turn the switch off, then on. If it persists, re-initialize the control as described in the Programming section, and if it still persists, replace the control panel.
High: the control cannot read the oil temperature reliably, so the fryer should not be used.

What does Henny Penny error code E-47 mean?
The fryer's temperature probe gives an analog signal, and an analog-to-digital converter chip turns it into a number the control can use. If that chip fails, the control cannot read the temperature properly, and it shows E-47. The manual's action is in three steps: turn the switch off, then on; if it persists, re-initialize the control, following the Programming section; and if it still persists, replace the control panel. Because the converter is on the control board, replacing the panel is the real cure. This differs from E-6A and E-6B, where the probe or its wire is the problem. Here the probe may be fine and the chip that reads it is not. Cooks see the fryer stop heating or show odd temperatures, and the message appears at power-up or soon after. A technician checks the probe against a reference thermometer so the chip is blamed only after the probe has been cleared, and a replacement panel is then set up with the fryer's programs.
Affected models and control systems
Henny Penny OFG-391 open gas fryer. The manual we used is a text viewer copy. E-47 is the A-to-D failure message on the OFG-391.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E-47 on the controller
- Temperature display wrong or missing
- Fryer stops heating
- Message appears at power-up
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E-47 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A-to-D failure (analog converter chip)
- Chip damaged by a voltage surge
- Moisture on the control board
- Chip aged from heat
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the switch off, wait a moment and turn it on.
- Write down the cook settings.
- Do not re-initialize the control unless you know the Programming section.
- If E-47 returns, call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code E-47
- Read the code and confirm E-47.
- Turn the switch off and on.
- Re-initialize the control following the Programming section.
- Compare the probe reading with a reference thermometer.
- Replace the control panel if it still persists.
- The converter chip is on the control board and cannot be repaired in place.
- Telling a chip problem from a probe problem needs a meter and thermometer.
- The control panel sits on line voltage.
How error code E-47 differs from similar codes
E-47 is the converter chip; E-6A and E-6B are probe circuit problems.
