Hoshizaki Flaker 1 Beep: Low-Water Safety
One beep, every 5 seconds, on a Hoshizaki F-1501M or F-2001M flaker means the low-water safety tripped: the upper float switch stayed open for more than 90 seconds after the inlet water valve energized. Restore the water supply. The alarm resets itself once water returns and the switch closes.
Medium: the machine stops making ice until water returns, and it usually clears once the supply is restored.

What does Hoshizaki error code 1 beep mean?
A flaker needs water in its reservoir to make ice. When the control energizes the inlet water valve, the upper float switch should close within a short time as water rises. If the float switch is still open after 90 seconds, the control concludes water is not arriving and sounds one beep every 5 seconds. The manual's only action is to restore the water supply. A closed supply valve, a frozen or kinked line, a clogged inlet filter or screen, or a low line pressure can all keep water from reaching the reservoir. The safety resets automatically as soon as the supply is back and the switch closes, so no button needs to be pressed. A float switch that sticks open would give the same signal with water present, which is why a repeat after the supply is confirmed needs a technician's look.
Affected models and control systems
F-1501M and F-2001M J-board modular flakers; the same alarm table in the manual is marked for DCM models where it applies.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- One beep every 5 seconds
- Machine not making ice
- Low or no water in the reservoir
- Inlet water line that is closed or without pressure
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 1 beep on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Upper float switch open for more than 90 seconds after the inlet water valve energizes
- A water shut-off valve that was closed during cleaning or service
- A clogged inlet screen or filter that blocks flow
- A float switch that sticks open even with water present
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the water shut-off valve to the machine is fully open.
- Look for a kinked or frozen supply line, and a filter that has not been changed.
- Wait a minute after water returns; the alarm clears by itself.
- If the beeping continues with water present, note it and call service.
How a technician diagnoses error code 1 beep
- Confirm the alarm and the 90-second condition.
- Verify water supply pressure and the inlet valve operation.
- Check the inlet screen for debris.
- Test the upper float switch for correct action with water level.
- Replace the float switch or valve only after the test.
- Inlet valve coils and the float switch circuit are live 115 V parts.
- Float switch action has to be tested with a meter while the water level changes.
- A water-supply problem can also be a building plumbing issue.
How error code 1 beep differs from similar codes
1 beep on a flaker is the low-water safety. On KM cubers, 1 beep means high evaporator temperature, a different alarm.

Do I reset it?
No. It resets automatically once water supply is restored and the switch closes.
How long before the alarm?
The upper float switch must stay open for more than 90 seconds after the inlet water valve energizes.
Is 1 beep always low water?
On these flakers, yes. On KM cubers the same count means something else.
