La Marzocco Espresso Machine Message: Invalid Password
Invalid Password means the password entered at the display does not match the programmed password, and the machine goes back to its previous state. Enter the correct password, or ask whoever set the machine up. Brewing is not affected.

What does La Marzocco Invalid Password mean?
Some menus on the machine are protected by a password so that settings such as temperatures, timeouts and presets cannot be changed by accident. When someone enters a password, the CPU compares it with the one stored in the machine. If the two do not match, the display shows Invalid Password and the machine returns to whatever state it was in before. The manual lists no further action. Nothing has failed: no setting has been changed and access to the protected menu is simply refused. The message usually follows a typing slip, the wrong password for the menu being opened, or a password that someone changed without passing it on. Entering the right password clears the situation at once, and drinks can be made the whole time.
Affected models and control systems
La Marzocco Linea PB (display software, Operating Manual V3.2) and Strada AV (MAN.16.1.01 V1.0).
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Invalid Password on the display
- The settings menu does not open
- The screen drops back to where it was
- The same message again on a second try
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind Invalid Password on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- The password entered does not match the programmed password
- A digit entered wrongly or in the wrong order
- Password changed by another user and never passed on
- The password for a different menu level being used for this one
Safe checks before calling for service
- Try the password again slowly and check each digit as you enter it.
- Ask whoever set up the machine, or the last person who changed settings, whether the password was changed.
- Do not guess many times in a row; a wrong guess changes nothing but wastes time.
- Keep using the machine normally, because drinks do not depend on the password.
- If nobody knows the password, write down what you were trying to change and give it to the technician.
How a technician diagnoses Invalid Password
- Confirm the message appears only when opening a protected menu.
- Ask who last changed the password and whether it was written down.
- Try the password recorded for the site.
- If it is lost, follow the maker's procedure for restoring access to the programming menu.
- Make the intended parameter change, then record the password with the owner.
- Protected menus change boiler limits and timeouts that matter for safety, so we change them only with the machine's own data in view.
- Restoring access to a locked menu has to follow the maker's procedure, and a wrong step can overwrite settings.
- A technician can also check that the settings are right after access is restored.
How Invalid Password differs from similar codes
This is a refusal of access, not an alarm from the machine. The boiler and flowmeter messages on the same display report real conditions.

Does Invalid Password stop the machine from working?
No. The machine simply returns to its previous state, and drinks can still be made.
How many tries do I get?
The manual does not give a limit. A few careful tries are fine, but guessing at random is not a good plan.
Who should know the password?
The owner and whoever installed or services the machine. If it has been lost, a technician can help recover access.
