Meiko Commercial Dishwasher Message 7: Door Not Closed
Message 7 on a Meiko M-iClean U means the door is not closed. Shut the door firmly, and if it will not latch, check the rack for anything sticking out. If message 7 stays with the door shut, call us.
Low: an operator message; closing the door clears it.

What does MEIKO error code 7 mean?
A commercial dishwasher must not run with the door open, so the M-iClean U watches the door and waits for it to be shut before it goes on. Message 7 is one of the gray operator messages on the color display, and it simply says the door is not closed. Most of the time the cause is plain. A rack or dish is sticking out and holding the door off the latch, or the door was pushed shut without catching all the way. Less often the door seal or hinge has worn, so the door no longer closes square, or the door switch does not read the closed position even when the door looks fine. An older machine may have a worn handle or catch. The machine does nothing wrong while it waits; it is just protecting the user from spray and steam. Closing the door properly clears the message. If the door is truly shut and message 7 persists, the sensing is the issue, and that is for a technician.
Affected models and control systems
This is for the Meiko M-iClean U undercounter dishwasher, from the gray operator messages in its instructions. Other Meiko ranges number door messages differently.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Message 7 on the display
- Cycle will not start
- Door that bounces back open or does not catch
- A rack that sits higher than normal
Possible causes
Listed in MEIKO's documentation
- Rack or dish keeping the door from latching
- Door seal or hinge that no longer closes square
- Door switch that does not read the closed position
- Door handle or catch worn on an older machine
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 7 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Tall glassware in a rack tipped forward against the inside of the door
- Door hinge worn after years of heavy daily use
Safe checks before calling for service
- Close the door, as the maker's message says.
- If it will not latch, pull the rack out and check that nothing sticks out or sits on the door edge.
- Open the door fully, close it again firmly, and look at the display.
- Do not tape, prop or hold the door switch to start a cycle.
- If message 7 stays with the door shut, note whether the door feels loose and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 7
- Read the message and watch the door closing.
- Check the latch, hinge alignment and door seal.
- Test the door switch operation with a meter.
- Check the switch actuator position.
- Review the wiring and connector to the switch.
- Replace the switch or catch only after the test.
- Door switches are safety devices wired to live 208-240 V circuits, and bridging one can start a cycle with the door open.
- Testing a switch needs a meter and removal of side panels.
- Adjusting a door that closes crooked can change how the seal works and cause leaks.
How error code 7 differs from similar codes
Messages 8 and 9 are different: they report the two door switches disagreeing, while 7 just says the door is open.

The door looks closed. Why does 7 show?
A rack or glass may be holding it slightly off the latch. Open fully and close again firmly.
Can I hold the door shut to run a cycle?
No. That defeats the safety switch and risks spray and burns.
Is message 7 the same as 8?
No. 7 means the door is open, and 8 is a mismatch between the two switches.
