Meiko Commercial Dishwasher Error Code 8: Door Switches Disagree

Message 8 on a Meiko M-iClean U means the two door switch signals do not match, with the left switch reading 1 and the right reading 0. Open and close the door firmly once, then call a service technician as the maker says. Limited-capacity work is possible, but never bypass a door switch.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the door sensing is split, limiting the machine to reduced use until it is repaired.

What does MEIKO error code 8 mean?

The M-iClean U uses two door switches so that it can be sure the door is really shut. Both must agree before the control accepts a closed door. Message 8 reports a split reading: the left switch says closed, shown as 1, while the right switch says open, shown as 0. The control cannot decide which to believe, so it treats the situation as a problem for a technician and posts the message. It is about the switches and the door, not about the dishes in the rack. The right-hand switch or its actuator is the first thing under suspicion, since that is the side reading open. Beyond that, the left switch, the wiring and connectors to both, or a door that closes square on one side but not the other can all produce the same mismatch. The manual says to call a service technician, and notes that limited-capacity work is possible in the meantime. Under no circumstances should the door be held, taped or propped to force a cycle.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Meiko M-iClean U undercounter dishwashers, from the red and gray messages in the operating instructions. Other Meiko ranges number door switch messages differently.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Message 8 on the display
  • Cycles refusing to start or stopping at once
  • Door that seems closed but the machine disagrees
  • Reduced capacity operation only

Possible causes

Listed in MEIKO's documentation

  • Right door switch and its actuator
  • Left door switch and its actuator
  • Wiring and connectors to both door switches
  • Door alignment that closes one side but not the other

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 8 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Right-side actuator knocked out of position when racks were slid in
  • Water or detergent residue on the right switch contacts
  • Door that sags slightly on the right after heavy use

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Open the door, close it firmly, and see whether the message clears.
  2. Check the rack and the door edge for anything holding one side open.
  3. Call a service technician, which is the maker's instruction for this message.
  4. If you must keep working, use the limited capacity the machine allows, and never bypass or hold a door switch.
  5. Tell us it showed left 1, right 0.

How a technician diagnoses error code 8

  1. Read the message and confirm the left 1, right 0 split.
  2. Inspect the door alignment, hinges and both actuators.
  3. Test each switch with a meter, door open and closed.
  4. Check connectors and wires to both switches.
  5. Compare switch behavior side to side.
  6. Replace the failed switch or actuator only after the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Both door switches are wired into live 208-240 V circuits, and testing them needs panels off.
  • Door switches are safety devices, and a bypass can start a cycle with the door open.
  • Reading which side is wrong needs a meter, not a guess from outside the cabinet.

How error code 8 differs from similar codes

Message 9 is the mirror image, with left 0 and right 1, so it points to the opposite side.
