E097 is a recommission test failure for opening the door: no user action was registered within 10 seconds, and the door switch circuit stayed closed. The manual says to check the door switches and their connections.

What does Merrychef error code E097 mean?
In this recommission step the person at the oven opens the door, and the oven expects the door switch circuit to open. If it is still closed after 10 seconds, the oven records E097: Recommission Fail Door Open. That tells the technician the oven reads the door as shut when it may not be. This matters because the door switches are interlocks: an interlock that cannot tell open from closed is not doing its job. The causes could be a switch whose contacts have stuck or welded, a switch out of adjustment, or wiring that shorts the circuit. The step could also simply have been missed within the 10 seconds. The manual lists no causes of its own and says to check the door switches and connections. A door that does register correctly in the closed direction but not the open one points toward a stuck switch.
Affected models and control systems
Merrychef eikon e2s with the QTS touch screen and SRB relay board controller. Confirmed in the e2s service manual's recommission list.

Is E097 dangerous?
It can be, because it suggests an interlock cannot see the door open. Stop using the oven until it is checked.

E096 is a door that does not register as closed. E097 is a door that still registers as closed when opened.
Can I clear it by cleaning the door?
Cleaning around the latch may help if debris is the cause, but a stuck switch still needs a technician.
