Randell Prep Table Error Code LEA: Compressor Running Too Long

LEA means the compressor has run continuously for too long on a Randell 8000-290 or 9000W-290 prep table with the Danfoss controller. The cabinet is not reaching its set temperature. Close every door and drawer fully, clear the front grille, and call us if LEA remains.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the table still cools, but a compressor that never rests wears faster and the cause needs finding.

What does Randell error code LEA mean?

A prep table compressor normally runs, reaches set temperature, and rests. The Danfoss controller measures how long the compressor has been on without a break. If the cabinet never reaches its set point, the controller never lets the compressor rest, and after too long a run it shows LEA. The code does not say why the cabinet cannot catch up; it only reports that it has not. The owner's manual points to the door and drawer sealing and the condenser as the first things to check. A heavy load of warm product can do it for a short time, and a real cooling problem does it for good. The four items in the manual's list are door and drawer sealing, condenser coil cleanliness, evaporator ice and fan operation, and refrigeration performance when the load is normal. The last item is the one that needs a technician, since it means the sealed system is not producing the cooling it should. The first three are conditions you can see or ask about before the visit.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Randell 8000-290 and 9000W-290 series prep tables with the Danfoss controller, such as the 8148N-290 and 9148W-290. Other controllers report this differently.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • LEA on the Danfoss display
  • The compressor running without cycling off
  • Pans that never reach set temperature
  • Frost or ice on the evaporator

Possible causes

Listed in Randell's documentation

  • Door and drawer sealing
  • Condenser coil dirty or blocked
  • Evaporator ice or a fan that is not running
  • Refrigeration performance low even with a normal load

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code LEA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Many pans of warm product loaded after a delivery or prep session
  • Gasket gap at a drawer that was repaired or swapped
  • Evaporator fan stopped so cold air does not move through the well

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Close every door and drawer fully and look at the gaskets.
  2. Check that the front grille is clear.
  3. Measure pan temperature with a thermometer.
  4. Do not open the compressor compartment. Call us to schedule service if LEA remains, and tell us how long the compressor seems to have been running.

How a technician diagnoses error code LEA

  1. Read the display and confirm LEA on the Danfoss controller.
  2. Check pan temperature against the display and note the set point.
  3. Test door and drawer gaskets and closure.
  4. Inspect the condenser and confirm fan operation.
  5. Inspect the evaporator for ice and check the evaporator fan.
  6. Measure refrigeration performance and pressures if the simple causes are ruled out.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Measuring pressures and performance needs gauges on the refrigerant circuit, and this table uses a flammable refrigerant.
  • Condenser and evaporator fan wiring carries line voltage and has to be isolated before testing.
  • A compressor that has run nonstop for a long time can be damaged, so the cause should be found by someone trained.

How error code LEA differs from similar codes

LEA reports a long compressor run on the Danfoss controller. Alarms such as Hi report the temperature itself.

LEAQuestions about Randell error code LEA
Does LEA mean the compressor is broken?

Not necessarily. It means the cabinet is not catching up, and the cause is often seals or a dirty coil.

Can warm product cause it?

A big load of warm product can, for a while. It should clear as the cabinet recovers.

Should I turn the table off?

Moving the food to another cooler is wise if pans are warm. Call us before leaving it running for days.
