Rational Combi Oven Error Code Service 32.x (gas): Ignition Box
Service 32.x on a gas SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency names an ignition box that is not working: 32.0 is the top box, 32.1 the bottom box on floor models and 32.2 both. Close the gas valve to the oven. If the air smells normal, keep the oven off and tell us the message you saw.
High: a gas safety message where heating stops until the ignition box and its gas parts are checked.

What does Rational error code Service 32.x mean?
The ignition box lights the burner. On a gas SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency the oven has one for the top burner, and floor models have a second for the bottom. When a box reports trouble, heating stops, and the display names the box: 32.0 for the top, 32.1 for the bottom and 32.2 for both. The owner's manual tells the operator to close the gas valve, because this is a gas safety message. The maker's list names the ignition box in the code, the ignition electrode and flame sensing, gas valve operation and supply pressure, and the wiring between the box and the control. Each of these is a link in the chain from the control's request for heat to a flame that the box can confirm. The oven cannot tell which link failed, only that the box did not get the result it expects. A technician therefore starts with the box named in the code and works through the electrode, the valve and the wiring in order. The burner is never relit by hand, and the panels stay closed.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to gas SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency (SCC_WE) ovens, per the Original operating instructions. 32.1 and 32.2 apply to floor models with a bottom ignition box.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Service 32.0, 32.1 or 32.2 on the screen
- No heat from the named burner
- Heating stopped on the whole oven in some cases
- The oven staying off after restarts
Possible causes
Listed in Rational's documentation
- The ignition box named in the code
- Ignition electrode or flame sensing
- Gas valve operation or supply pressure
- Wiring between the box and the control
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Service 32.x on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Box overheated by its location near the burner
- Flame sensing wire corroded at its connector
- Gas shut-off partly closed by a recent cleaning visit
Safe checks before calling for service
- Close the gas valve to the oven.
- A gas smell means walking out of the building first and phoning the gas utility from outside, with no switches or phones used near the oven.
- If the air smells normal, keep the oven off and tell us the message you saw.
- Leave the panels closed and never relight the burner by hand.
How a technician diagnoses error code Service 32.x
- Read the message and identify the box from the digit after the dot.
- Confirm gas supply and pressure.
- Inspect the electrode and flame sensing for that box.
- Test the gas valve for correct operation.
- Check the wiring between the box and the control.
- Replace the failed part, and run ignition cycles with a gas leak test.
- The ignition box is part of a gas safety circuit and should be handled by a trained technician.
- The electrode and valve work with high voltage and a gas path.
- Relighting a burner by hand is dangerous and not part of the maker's instructions.
How error code Service 32.x differs from similar codes
On the whitefficiency family 32.0, 32.1 and 32.2 name the ignition box. On iCombi ovens the 32.x numbers mean a combustion system lockout.
