Rational Combi Oven Error Code Service 43: Valve Passing Water
Service 43 on a Rational SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency means valve Y1, Y3 or Y4 is passing water, or the CDS sensor is always pulsing. If water is leaking, shut the supply valve and dry the floor. Let the oven cool, cycle the switch off and on once, and call us if the message returns.
High: water passing a valve can leak into the oven interior, so the unit should stay off until it is checked.

What does Rational error code Service 43 mean?
Valves Y1, Y3 and Y4 should be fully closed when the oven does not call for water. The CDS sensor counts water pulses, so when it keeps registering flow while every valve is meant to be shut, the control concludes that a valve is passing water, or that the sensor is stuck on. It stops the affected program and displays Service 43. A valve usually leaks past its seat because scale or small debris holds it slightly open, or because a pressure spike at the inlet disturbed the seat. You may notice water on the floor around the oven, or a program that ends early with the message on the screen. Because water inside the oven can run toward wiring, the safe response is to close the supply first. The manual lists the three valves, anything holding one open, how the CDS sensor behaves, and inlet pressure, and a technician works through them one at a time.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Rational SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency (SCC_WE) family with valves Y1, Y3 and Y4. Other Rational generations may use different valve names and numbers.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Service 43 displayed and the program stopped
- Water on the floor near the oven
- Dripping heard when the oven is idle
- Program ends early with the message on screen
Possible causes
Listed in Rational's documentation
- Valve Y1, Y3 or Y4 leaks past its seat
- Scale or debris holds a valve open
- CDS sensor reports pulses all the time
- Water pressure spikes at the inlet
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Service 43 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Mineral scale built up on a valve seat in a hard water area
- A supply line pressure surge after nearby plumbing work
Safe checks before calling for service
- If water is leaking, close the supply valve and dry the floor.
- Let the cabinet cool.
- Reopen the valve and switch the oven off and on once.
- If Service 43 returns, close the supply again and call us. Steam parts and live wiring are inside, so panels stay on.
- Tell us where any water appeared and which program was running.
How a technician diagnoses error code Service 43
- Read the message history and check which program triggered Service 43.
- Confirm inlet pressure and look for surges.
- Isolate each of Y1, Y3 and Y4 and see which one passes water when closed.
- Inspect the passing valve for scale or debris and clean or replace it.
- Check the CDS sensor reading with the valves confirmed shut, then run a full test cycle.
- Water leaking inside the housing can reach live wiring, which is a shock hazard.
- Isolating individual valves means opening panels and working near pressurized water and steam parts.
How error code Service 43 differs from similar codes
Service 41 and 42 report a valve or sensor that does not open or deliver, while Service 43 is the opposite: water flowing when it should be shut.

Why would a valve pass water?
Scale or small debris can sit on a seat and keep the valve from sealing. The CDS sensor then counts the water that slips through.
Does restarting fix it?
It can clear the message when a valve was briefly stuck. A valve that keeps passing water must be cleaned or replaced.
Can I keep using the oven?
Not while water is leaking. Close the supply and call us.
