Speed Queen Washer Error Code E:0F: Infra-Red Communicator Off

E:0F on an older Speed Queen EDC topload coin washer means the infra-red communicator was programmed off, so the Micro-wand IIIe gets no answer. Audits and price changes through the wand cannot happen, but coin acceptance and the wash cycle are not affected. Reprogram the communicator on as the owner's manual says, re-aim the wand and try again.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: a setting message; the washer keeps taking coins and washing.

What does Speed Queen error code E:0F mean?

Older timer-type topload washers with the EDC electronic control can talk to a hand-held Micro-wand IIIe through an infra-red window. Owners use the wand to read audit figures and to change prices. E:0F tells you that the infra-red communicator on this machine was programmed off in the control, so it ignores the wand and the wand gets no answer. It is a setting, not a problem in the wash cycle, and coin acceptance is not affected, so customers can still wash. The manual lists the infra-red option setting, whether it was turned off on purpose, and the control settings. Someone may have switched it off deliberately to stop tampering, or it may have changed during a reprogramming. These washers are an older line still in service in many laundromats, and we repair them. Since nothing is broken, the fix is a matter of turning the option back on with the owner's procedure, then pointing the wand at the window again to confirm that the two can talk.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to older Speed Queen timer-type topload washers with the EDC electronic control, used with the Micro-wand IIIe. Quantum controls and card-reader machines show different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

Possible causes

Listed in Speed Queen's documentation

  • The infra-red option is set off in the control

  • Other control settings affect the communicator

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:0F on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A reprogramming session that reset the option without anyone noticing
  • A wand aimed at the wrong window, because the setting is on but the aim is poor

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Reprogram the infra-red communicator on, as the owner's manual says.
  2. Re-aim the Micro-wand IIIe and try again.
  3. If you cannot find the option, send us a service request.
  4. Tell us who changed the setting, if you know.

How a technician diagnoses error code E:0F

  1. Confirm the model and the EDC control version.
  2. Review the infra-red setting in the control programming.
  3. Turn the option on with the proper sequence and save it.
  4. Test the wand communication from the right distance and angle.
  5. If the wand still gets no answer, check the infra-red window and the control board.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Control programming uses the machine's own service menu, and wrong entries can change prices and audit data.
  • If the infra-red window or board needs testing, it means powered work behind the control panel.

How error code E:0F differs from similar codes

E:0F is a setting message on the older EDC control. Card-reader washers use EC codes for communication problems.
