  5. Automatic stroke that fails on A models

The 823, 825, 827 and 829 series and the earlier X13 are older Berkel gravity-feed slicers that are still in service. The models include 823E, 825E, 825A, 827E, 827A, 829E, 829A, X13, X13A, 829A-PLUS and 823E-PLUS. The model number is on the data plate, and an A marks an automatic carriage.

With age, belts stretch, bushings wear and knives lose their edge. We check those first, along with the gauge plate and the switch. Unplug the slicer before cleaning, and never reach past the guards.

These older Berkel slicers are still earning their keep, and many are worth repairing. We confirm parts before we visit, give a written price first, and tell you plainly if a repair is not worth making.

FAQBerkel 823, 825, 827, 829 and X13 Older Slicers questions
Are these old slicers still repairable?

Often yes. We service older Berkel slicers still in use, and we tell you plainly if a repair is not worth it.

Why does my carriage drag?

Residue, worn bushings or a bent rod is the usual reason, and we clean, adjust and replace worn parts. The carriage should glide freely once the parts are right.

How do I find my model number on an older slicer?

It is on the data plate. Give us the full number, including any A, E or PLUS ending, so we can confirm belts, bushings and other parts before we come.
